  • First Grade Favorites - Flexible Seating and Hands-on Learning

    Thank you so very much for your generous donation to our 1st Grade classroom. The items donated are being used and loved. The seat cushions and clipboards have allowed students flexible seating options for doing group work, and they absolutely love it. Additionally, the Play Doh has made word work and learning sight words an enjoyable task. Our new Ten frames magnetic dry erase boards have made math and literacy skills exciting and valuable to our academic success. We cannot express our gratitude enough for the difference you chose to make in our room. We love learning through play, and we are grateful that you made these amazing opportunities a reality for us!

  • Exploring a Love for Learning Through Play!

    My classroom of vibrant 1st graders is most grateful for your contribution to our classroom. The literacy and math centers provided has allowed my students to thrive in hands-on-learning experiences while plying with their peers. My students get excited about our learning centers and gain valuable knowledge and practice through fun and interactive play. Some of their favorites are the I Can do games and bingo games. Thank you for giving my students the gift of learning while enjoying every second of it!”

  • Lively Literacy Learning Through Play!

    My students were so very excited to receive the literacy center materials for our classroom. Their excitement could not be contained as they cheered,smiled, laughed, and waited with anticipation for me to open each package.

    These materials have allowed me to utilize multiple literacy learning centers at one time in varying educational levels. My classes favorite is playing Sight Word Bingo on Fridays with our magnetic chips and wands. They don't even realize they are building automaticity with sight words as they play. It is great to be able to differentiate for different academic abilities with three separate levels of cards.

    Additionally students have improved spelling skills and phonemic awareness using our new phonics flip books, phonics write/wipe board games, and dry erase boards. They have so much fun while building and mastering phonetic skills to improve reading rate and fluency.

    Furthermore, I have a group of students who I provide independent reading remediation, and they feel like tutoring is "game time". It's incredible to watch them learn through play and enjoy learning how to become independent and proficient readers. Thank you to Donors Choose and the OKSDE for funding this project. We are so grateful for all the materials to enhance students' literacy skills. My students are showing great growth in reading fluency and comprehension. It is a gift that will live in them for a lifetime. Thank you for making a difference one student at a time!”

Reading is a fundamental skill in first grade. In my classroom I provide my students with the necessary foundation in phonics, reading, and literacy instruction that all grades thereafter will build upon. I would love to have some fun literacy center resources to help me foster this goal. If you were to observe my classroom, you would find students working at many different levels. I differentiate reading, phonics, and spelling lessons to meet my students' needs. All of my students work on a level that is tailored to his or her needs. In essence, I have students acquiring skills below their grade level to close achievement gaps, and students working as many as two grades above current grade placement to continue academic growth. Additionally, I provide a minimum of 120 minutes per week of individualized tutoring before school starts to all students who are not performing at their current grade level. The manipulatives I am asking for will make learning hands-on, applicable, and most of all fun for my students. My classroom would greatly benefit from additional resources to use in reading and literacy centers to improve instruction. These materials would allow my students to gain a deeper understanding of reading, phonics, and spelling as we focus on learning skills taught in class. Each of the centers I have selected gives students the opportunity to use a hands-on approach to acquiring necessary literacy skills. These centers can be used individually or in small groups. They will allow me additional avenues of reteaching moments and providing RTl for students. I truly believe that this will assist them in mastering crucial components in reading. This will improve students' confidence and success with literacy skills. I would sincerely appreciate your support in helping me acquire these items for my classroom.
