Heggerty Phonics for Early Readers
Funded Nov 16, 2021Thank you again for donating to our Heggerty Phonics Project! We know it's been quite a while, however during this time we've been able to implement such a great phonics routine with many of our Kindergarten and First grade students! These students are showing confidence and the desire to want to learn to read. They have made notable growth and continue to build upon these foundational skills to become life long readers! Many thanks from all of our FSS K/1 staff, interventionists and students too!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Slater

Funded Mar 22, 2021As we jump into a new school year I am excited to get to use the materials that you helped me get for my classroom!
I will be able to prep some new games that will be bright and reusable, practice sounding out words and so much more! You have helped me to feel as though we can hit the ground running to support these students as they transition back to School in person full time! I will have materials at my fingertips instead of worrying how to provide engaging lessons.
I'm excited for what the year has in store and cannot wait to begin!”

New Rug for Classroom Community
Funded Aug 10, 2018Our first grade wanted to thank you for your generosity. Our class has had a positive impact from this rug because we are able to sit comfortably in circle time, during independent reading as well as buddy reading. It is a grounding area in the classroom that we have morning meeting at everyday. They also have groups at the rug that meet for different centers. The listening center is by the rug so students are able to lay down and listen to their story on their headphones.
Our class was so excited when we first saw the rug. The circles on the edge of the rug reminded us of planets. Some of the students also commented on how soft it was compared to the puzzle tiles they had before.
In our first grade class we are excited to do more independent reading as well as reading with a buddy in our classroom. We have been listening to many stories on the rug and have focused on learning about different characters right now.
Thank you again! ”

Read and Learn by Hatching Chickens
Funded Mar 9, 2016Dear Donor,
I cannot even begin to describe how thankful we are for your generous donation to our chicken project this year. For the first time ever, my class was able to experience the hatching process first hand and learn all about it through the many books and resources that you helped us purchase!
Each day we were able to open up one of the eggs from the hatching life cycle and take a very close look at how our chickens were growing inside the egg and what the change was from the days prior. It was amazing to see how observant and excited the kids got at this particular moment! We recorded our new facts into our "Daily Peep" journals and drew the pictures to match what we knew was happening inside the egg.
The many books that we purchased helped our read aloud time to come alive. The mixture of fiction and nonfiction created an interest in these students that was unstoppable. They were looking forward to learning new facts and explaining to other peers all about what was happening in their classroom! I would even watch them pick up these books during their independent reading time in order to look at pictures, and read through the books a second or third time on their own! It was truly amazing!
I am looking forward to putting these resources to use for many years to come, and I couldn't have done it without your help!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Slater
