A Private Work Oasis
Funded Oct 30, 2021Starting up a new classroom is a daunting task, especially when it is a classroom that is unique to the district. This is the task that I was challenged with this year I couldn't have done it without the support of my Donor's Choose contributors. My students not only have a welcoming, calming environment, they have tools for learning which they absolutely need on a daily basis.
The ivy has been used to complement the brick walls in the classroom creating a natural looking and calming environment. When working with students with Cortical Vision Impairment, decorations need to be kept to a minimum and must be well thought out. The ivy adds the perfect touch!
Contributing to the calming environment, is the "cloud" light covers that I have covering all of my fluorescent lights. When I first put them onto the lights, the kids reacted right away! These covers mute the harsh light that fluorescent bulbs produce and create a calm and soothing classroom light source instead. Fluorescent lights have been known to be a contributing factor for seizure activity, so I am really thankful that I can reduce the amount of fluorescent lighting that my students are exposed to.
In use throughout the day are the table top white boards of which we were able to purchase three of. These magnetic, slanted white boards are perfect for use with magnetic letters and numbers. They also create the perfect backdrop for my students who have visual impairments and need their learning materials elevated in order to see them, They also allow for the students to have increased independence for moving the materials around as they are magnetic and all of the students have limited fine motor skills as well.
To say that my students, staff, and I are grateful for these supplies is an understatement. Thank you again. We sincerely appreciate your generosity.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Roane
