Thank you for your generosity and support. The project is funded and the students will be able to create pod casts to support their writing and reading.

  • Body for Mind

    Funded Apr 16, 2019

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the generous donors who so thoughtfully funded this project. A comfortable learning and working environment greatly impacts the students as it allows them flexibility and choice. Students are less distracted and are more prepared to work independently. The students are able to self manage by reflecting on their needs and then selecting what resources that will best support them. In addition, it offers the flexibility to move and adjust to meet these needs as they change throughout the day.

The best part of the program is the surprise the kids feel when the boxes arrive. They are often amazed that strangers would give to a project that would support their needs. They open the boxes with enthusiasm and can't wait to use the products. After the students opened the boxes they transitioned to lunch. When they returned, everything was assembled and ready for use. They immediately developed an understanding of how each resource was different and then began to work with the materials at various times throughout the day. As days passed, they demonstrated a true understanding of flexible seating by not always rushing to use something, rather they reflected on what worked best for them and why.

With the help of Donors Choose, I look forward to continuing to develop a modern learning environment reflective of the physical needs of various learners. As I continue to explore seating options, and flexible structures, I myself am learning about how physical space affects and influence performance and achievement.”

  • Bouncy Bands for Brain Breaks and Focused Learning

    Funded Mar 3, 2016

    Dear Donors,

I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to review our class project and your donation. The students were so excited to learn that people who they didn't know care about their success and want to see them achieve. The looks on their faces was priceless. I can't even explain how special they felt to be chosen. The bouncy bands helped students to calm their bodies and self regulate their physical needs. As adults we often learn how to fidget appropriately but children can't and shouldn't have to sit still. They need to fidget and move. This tool allowed them to be able to build stamina by sitting at their desks for longer periods of time while taking movement breaks. It actually became second nature after a period of time and they simply put their feet up to bounce when they felt the need. The bouncy bands are very sturdy and are packed up safely for the next school year. Many students will benefit from the generosity shown. I look forward to our next project with Donors Choose. Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. D'Agostino

I teach in a general education classroom. Although it is a general education classroom, the students have diverse needs. Some students receive special education services, others are English language learners and general education students. They are 8 and despite their academic differences and diverse backgrounds, they all share one need, fantastic books. The kids are bright and energetic and require an outlet that will inspire their creativity, challenge their thinking and broaden their understanding of the world.
