  • Rolling Out Our Stunts and Cheers in STYLE!

    Funded Dec 12, 2019

Words cannot express our thanks for these amazing mats! Our teams have been waiting years to get these!! As our team has grown, we have outgrown our current mats. Several of them were donated and all of them have been worn down. As a result they don't stick together as well. With these new mats, we can further decrease the risk of injury as these new mats are longer rolls that require less velcro taping.

These new mats will also allow our teams to have our own practice space. With two full teams (one with 20 cheerleaders and the other with 35 cheerleaders), we can be more efficient with our practice time. In the past, we had to share the mat and we were not able to get as much done. We also had to stay in the same room which was very noisy. With these new mats, we will no longer have these major constraints! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher Young

  • Cheering on Community Partnerships

    Funded Jan 7, 2020

We are at a loss for words on how GREAT this event went! The cheerleaders did an AMAZING job and most importantly they had a FABULOUS time performing and sharing their stunts, gymnastics, and dancing with their families, friends, and the community! They had the added benefit of getting to cheer on the sidelines for their basketball colleagues who were selected to also play a mini game at half time. This allowed them to also showcase their cheering and game day expressions!

In addition to the performance aspect, the team also got to bond. The event had activities that gave them opportunities to work together. This helped the team get to know each other better and further build trust, a necessary skill needed for cheerleading!”

  • Cheer Beats for Cheering and Dancing!

    Funded Jan 3, 2020

We love our new cheer mix! Not only were the cheerleaders moving and dancing to the new music but also the crowd! With all the exciting songs changes it had everyone on their feet and even had some people singing! During our competition, it was so helpful to keep us going and on a rhythm so that we did not rush or go too slowly. The sound effects helped draw attention to the most important elements of our routine such as our baskets, moving stunts, and tumbling. We can't wait to bring these beats to our next competition in the spring! Thank you!”

  • Bringing the Sparkle to the Brooklyn Diamond Cheer Competition

    Funded Dec 12, 2019

Thank you so much for all your support. I'm happy to report that both our dance and cheer teams had much success at the competition! Our dance team took home the first place trophy and crushed it with class! Their traditional technique combined with some newer moves won the judges over! Our cheer team also did very well and placed 2nd! They showcased and hit their new pyramid where the students could only do their skill on one leg! They garnered accolades from the judges for this!

From this experience, both teams got feedback on how to improve further. It also gave them the experience of having to perform under pressure! Both teams look forward to further growing and can't wait to compete again!”

  • Climbing To The Top!

    Funded Dec 12, 2019

Thank you so much for providing us with this unique opportunity! Our students are so excited to start this new sport. Many of our students have never had the chance to learn this skill and they are ecstatic! The program will teach students how to scale both natural and artificial rocks. As they learn how to do this, they will then work on learning different routes and work on their timing in order to attain the farthest rock in the quickest time possible. In doing this sport, students also hope develop their fine motor skills.

Since our school does not have a work out room and we are very limited in sports, being able to provide and build partnership with an outside source is amazing! We hope to continue this partnership and be able to offer this to more students in the future. Thank you and happy holidays!”

  • Girls Need Basketball Uniforms Too!!

    Funded Nov 14, 2019

Thank you so much for our new basketball uniforms! The girls were ecstatic!!! Pulling this team together was initially a challenge as they hadn't gotten much support in the past. At the start of the year, we weren't even sure we were going to have a team. Once the students heard the news of getting new supplies and the uniforms started arriving, their attitudes and confidence made significant gains! This helped them feel more comfortable on the court and led to them winning early on in their season! Without your help, none of this would have been possible! THANK YOU so much!”

  • The Aesthetics of Science

    Funded Oct 27, 2019

THANK YOU so much for the new computer! We are so excited about the many functions it has to promote our STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) lessons! We are already planning on using the computer for various STEAM lessons:

In 9th grade, we are learning about evolution and are going to have our students make storyboards explaining unique animal behaviors. Last year we had students do them free hand, this year we are excited to use the computer with the pen feature to make them digitally.

In 6th grade we will be learning about the physics of concert halls. We will be making blueprints of the halls using tech programs. In addition we will be conducting long term science investigations where we will make presentations and collecting data. Using this special computer allows us to make sketches directly into our reports!

Without your help, none of this will be possible! THANK YOU SO MUCH and we look forward to showing the world our work!”

  • Cheering on the Nation at the Macy's Day Parade!

    Funded Jun 27, 2019

Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to perform at the Macy's Day Parade! We have literally been jumping for joy this entire week and had an amazing experience learning from other experienced coaches from around the country! Also meeting other cheerleaders from other programs around the country was so much fun! Walking down the streets of NY as the only NYC school team gave us a sense of pride that we got to not only represent our school but also so many other cheerleaders from around the city!

In addition, we had the opportunity to build more trust among our own team and the older varsity team. With the many planned events (i.e. overnight at the Hilton, NBC performance, long hour practices) we could further build trust which can be transferred to our stunts and team! None of this would have been possible without you! THANK YOU!”

  • The Science of Music

    Funded Aug 21, 2019

Thank you so much for your donation of musical instruments. Although we weren't able to get the harp, we instead choose a plethora of musical instruments to teach the science of music! We are so excited to be using them this year so that students can better understand the connections between science (physics) and music. With the stringed instruments, they can literally see how the thickness of strings corresponds to the pitch (thicker string, lower pitch; thinner string, higher pitch). In the lessons we will also have them compare the size of the instruments in order to better understand how the size contributes pitch and frequency. With this purchase, we were also able to get brass and woodwind instruments. With their varying sizes and materials, students will also get an up close lesson on timbre, intervals, etc. The physics behind these instruments allows us to teach students about the various musical combinations these instruments are found in (duos, trios, orchestras, etc.). This lesson will also help them to have a more discerning ear and help them to be more critical listeners! Many thanks for this incredible learning opportunity!”

  • JV Cheerleaders at at the Macy's Day Parade!

    Funded Jun 12, 2019

We are so excited to be performing at this year's Macy's Day Thanksgiving Parade! This once in a life-time opportunity has us so excited to showcase our hard work and pride we have for our school. We have been perfecting our dance, stunt, and tumbling skills in order to share them with the nation! In addition, we are so excited to meet other cheerleaders from around the country!

This experience has also provides us the opportunity to build stronger bonds with our varsity team and our own team. This is so important for cheerleading as we rely on each other when doing stunts and we have to trust each other as they are fun but also come with some risk.

Lastly, we LOVE our new uniforms and can't wait to showcase them on national TV!!!

    Go Macy's and CSS!”
