Translating the World for My Community
Funded Dec 1, 2020Thank you so much for the translators! They have been incredibly helpful, especially during this challenging time. Many of our families have been tasked with taking more of a role as an educator in the home due to social distancing due to the limitations of having students in the school. With the translating devices, we can use them to help "speak" to families and give them guidance around what needs to be done. They have also assisted in giving updates to families where telecommunication is best rather than email. These devices will come in handy when we return to normal school as well as they can be used during events like parent teacher conferences!”

Funded Nov 30, 2020Thank you so much for the printers! We are so excited to use them in science class! We recently did a project where the students created balances at home. Due to the pandemic, students are working from home and don't have traditional science equipment. The students ended up sketching a design and creating a scale with materials they had at home. After, they found the mass of different objects and collected data!
We are so excited to use the printers to print out the sketches and balances they created. We are also excited to use them for more STEAM projects like this one! Additionally, we are hoping to use these images for our upcoming STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics) conference where they can create presentations for community scientists, engineers, and others in the STEAM fields. THANK YOU for making this happen!”

Funded Sep 16, 2020Thank you so much for your donation that helped us obtain fitbits for our students! We are so excited to put them to the test to not only help our students get physically fit (especially during this challenging time when many are stuck at home) but to also use it as a way to teach them about the scientific process! This interdisciplinary approach to learning mimics real life and introduces them to a vast number of fields--many where women are under represented.
Using the fitbits to monitor heart rate and sleep will help them better understand how their life choices affect their health. Also using the data can help them do long term studies and look for trends in various populations. Like real scientists and athletes having this data is so important so that they can make better decisions and push the fields further to continuously invent new ways to grow both athletics and science respectively.”

Funded Aug 14, 2020Thank you so much for the camera and microphone. It has been so helpful for both the students and myself. With this device I am able to deliver live instruction. This allows me to do demonstrations, show samples, and have in depth discussions with my students. The camera also allows me to read their facial expressions to help gauge whether they understand the material or not.
The other day, I was explaining to one of my students how to graph. The camera allowed me to walk him through, step by step, how to do it. I was able to sketch the graph with him and show it as I would a white board. Without these tools none of this would have been possible!
Thank you so much!”

Funded Jul 17, 2020Thank you so much for the amazon tablets. Many of our students are having to share devices with their siblings and working parents which has gravely interrupted their studies. These devices have allowed our students to not have to share which gives them more time to get their work done. It also gives them some piece of mind that they don't have to rush to have to pass the device off again for someone else to use.
These versatile devices also allow them to better communicate with their teachers and friends as they have cameras that allow for zoom and face to face interaction. By reading their expressions, we can gauge if the students need more help.
Lastly, with access to apps, our students can complete assignments virtually without having to worry about obtaining school supplies--another cost that can get expensive, especially in this pandemic!
Thank you for making a difference in the lives of our students!”

Translating My Class
Funded May 5, 2020Thank you so much for providing us funding to buy translation devices. These devices have allowed us to translate information for our diverse families! We are currently using it to help convert lessons on executive function to help our Spanish speaking population (as many of our families are Spanish speaking). In addition, we have used it to translate school documents to assist them in getting them all the information they need to make the best decisions for their families!
We are excited for parent teacher conference day when we can use the microphone translation portions of the devices. Having all the information is key to assisting students obtain all the content and information they need in order to be successful!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!”

Funded Aug 12, 2020Words cannot express how excited and so very thankful we are for this new computer! Distance learning has had so many challenges and with this new computer we are able to bring some normalcy back into the lives of our students. With this laptop I will be able to have a writing board where I will be able to draw diagrams and make notes so that students can better obtain content and understanding of challenging concepts during remote learning. With its powerful capabilities I will be able to also use it when doing hybrid classes as it is compatible with our triumph board. Without your help, none of this would have been possible—thanks again!”

Funded Dec 12, 2019Words cannot express how excited we are to be getting soccer uniforms! The students were literally jumping in the air! Since the teams have been in existence, they have had to worry about the supplies they would need to just play the game. With this taken care of, no student has to worry mentally or financially about not having supplies and then further worry about being able to play. The players and their coaches can now focus on learning and perfecting their soccer skills. With these matching uniforms, the visibility of our school colors also helps us be recognized and further contributes to the pride and comradery of the players!”

Funded Feb 7, 2020Thank you so much for our body liners! We are so excited to show them off at our next upcoming performance. During practice, we had the cheerleaders break them in so that they could get use to having these sleeves. They found them to be incredibly comfortable in addition to allowing us much movement and flexibility when executing our various stunts, tumbling, and dancing. Our old uniforms were very tight while these were lightweight and breathable as they are very active during practice and routines.
While wearing these, it became an unexpected learning tool in helping to see where we needed to "hit" out our arm motions. In cheer everything needs to be clean and sharp. Because of these sleeves, the coaches were able to give more constructive feedback that allowed the team to overall have more precise motions!”
