Throughout fifth grade our students learn about the United States and how it came to be. How the government was formed and how other countries and cultures arrived in America before the British. My students learn how Spain was one of the first countries and how they influenced North America.
Students complete a service learning project with UNO students over the subject of redlining. Students research the impact it did and still does have on Omaha and the nation. Students present their findings to the community and answer any questions they had.
Our classroom also completes a wax museum on Civil Rights leaders. Students study the civil right and select an individual that made a difference to them. They then become that person and teach other students and parents in our building.
