Our Chrome(book) Science Laboratory
Funded Feb 14, 2017Thank you all so much for helping to fund these computers for our classroom. The Chromebooks have been an amazing addition to our class environment, allowing students to do more individualized and tailored work. My students are learning so much more now that I can meet their specific needs, and work one on one with students to help them with their individual questions.
We have been able to do far more engaging labs and activities as well. We have been able to do multiple simulations of natural selection that would not be possible without this technology. We have been modeling how species can change over a period of time due to the changes in the environment, such as the peppered moths and the Galapagos finches. It is so much more engaging for my students to learn by actually doing, rather than being told it, or reading it in a book.
Thank you for making this dream a reality in my classroom. It means so much to all of us.”

Ms. Paradise

Funded Jan 4, 2017Thank you all so much for your help and support for our classroom project. The new Chromebooks have been an amazing boon to our classroom, and they are getting a lot of use! It has opened so many doors for my students, and allowed for a lot of growth in the classroom.
I brought out the laptops for one of my older classes so we could try a new way of reviewing content. We used the program Kahoot, which works a bit like Jeopardy, (only everyone gets the opportunity for points), and it was such a hit! Students were talking to each other about the questions and answers, and were really putting their all into it. Their engagement was fantastic, and they have been asking almost daily if we can use the Chromebooks to play. It has also helped students who come after school to make up work. They can find assignments online, and do their own learning and studying online so they are ready by next class.
All of this is thanks to your donations and support. So thank you all so very, very much!”

Ms. Paradise

Funded Feb 21, 2017Today was so much fun for the students and I! Students were scrambling to open the boxes, and they were very excited about what they found inside. Especially now that we have been able to continue some series that we had already started. We had to start a list for Assassination Classroom, because so many people are interested in reading them.
Manga is one of the only ways that some students will read at all, and for some it makes them more comfortable with reading in general. It also gives them something to do when they are waiting to go home, or are on the train home. And what is even better is that word of these books is spreading. Some of my students went next door with their books, and other students saw them and now they want to check out books. This is why I keep asking for books, because it is my hope that soon all students in my school, not just the ones I teach personally, will learn to love reading.
Thank you all so much for helping out our classroom project. It means so much to all of us, and none of this would be possible without your help and support. Thank you!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Paradise
Chromebook Virtual Lab V
Funded Dec 30, 2016Your help providing my students with Chromebooks has been an enormous help! These Chromebooks have allowed my students to access resources that they would never have been able to use. From videos, to interactive modules, to explorations and in depth research, my students have benefited from this technology in so many ways.
We have been doing a lot recently with the program EdPuzzle, which allows students to access videos from a host of different sources to learn and practice content independently. It means that students who really understand material can move on to new content quickly, and students who need more help and practice get individualized attention to support them with areas where they need help. It also allows my students to see visuals and actual science in a way I would never be able to show them with a textbook or worksheet. And this is just the beginning. I know that there are tons more resources out there available and waiting for my students to explore.
None of this would have been possible without all of your help and support. Both my students and I are grateful that you took the time to read our project and support our classroom. Thank you all so much for all you have done for us.”

Ms. Paradise

Funded Dec 20, 2016Thank you so much for helping support our classroom with Chromebooks for my students. We have been able to start using them in class, and the results have been remarkable. In our school, we have very little technology available to students. With the new Chromebooks you have helped provide, my students now know that there are people out in the world who care about their education and want them to succeed.
The Chromebooks have been especially helpful for students to help make up work and learning time. Many of my students struggle with consistent attendance, and the Chromebooks have helped find resources and materials to help supplement what they missed. Students have used them to watch content videos and take quizzes that they would have otherwise missed, and had gaps in their science education. In addition, we have also had students work on lab activities like NOVA's RNA Lab, which allows students to look at how RNA works, and the different shapes and functions they have. They have been excited to go back and to learn more, especially because it feels like they are just playing a game.
None of this would be possible without your help and support of my students and classroom. Thank you all so much for your support, and for showing my students a world of science outside the classroom.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Paradise
Chromebook Virtual Lab III
Funded Dec 20, 2016Your help providing Chromebook laptops to my students has been an overwhelming success for our classroom. We have finally been able to get students online and actively interacting with, and researching science concepts. My students have been able to watch videos to learn concepts in greater depth and detail, as well as practice with concepts in real hands-on ways that they never had access to before.
By giving my students these Chromebooks, they are able to get more individualized attention. Students who are eager to extend their learning have been able to research different genes and how their variations impact different organisms. We have had students catch up in class by reviewing concepts with EdPuzzle, and we have been able to get students to build their own DNA models using online resources.
None of this would have been possible without your support. Thank you to everyone who helped support our classroom and students with these new Chromebooks.”

Funded Nov 29, 2016Thank you so much for your amazing donation to our classroom! The brand new Chromebooks are up and running, and students are already using them to help understand science. I have been able to get my students to log on to Quizlet, which is an online study tool that allows students to focus their studying on the scientific vocabulary we have been using throughout the year. In addition, they allow students who have a grasp of the class material to stretch their learning even further, by using online videos and activities to push their thinking above and beyond the basics. In addition, it is also allowing my students who need more help the opportunity to review material more frequently. I now have the ability to know in the moment what concepts they do and do not understand using programs like EdPuzzle, and can give them more individualized and personal help to assist their learning.
None of this would ever be possible without all the support and donations you have given to our classroom. My students and I are so happy that you chose us, and your belief in our project is already demonstrating returns in the classroom. Thank you all so much.”

Funded Oct 28, 2016-Thank you for the books! The book I like the most and has a good interesting story is "orange vol 1." This is because it has a strong story, and talks about the effort to protect your loved ones. Thank you!
-Patema Inverted is a very enjoyable film. I liked the visual and the story line (Patema is my favorite character). Assassination classroom is a very enjoyable manga series and I loved the humor! My favorite character has to be Koro Sensei. He's a very well written character and I love how he is so care free but is very protective of his students. Thank you for donating to the Anime Club library!
-On behalf of the Anime Club, we thank those that have donated manga to our Anime Club library. They are very enjoyable and Anime Club members read them often.
Thank you very much for the donations!”

Funded Nov 4, 2016Thank you all so much for your help and support with getting our class the pulse oximeters. It helped so much with drawing students into the process of engaging in the scientific method and literally jumping into creating experiments. Our students do multiple labs during our Body System unit, and these devices allowed them to explore the differences between individuals, as well as the connections between the circulatory and respiratory system, and how it relates to them.
So often in the past when we have tried to do these experiments, students get bored or disinterested very quickly. They were really excited to see these devices that they had only seen in doctors offices or clinics before. Not only that, my students who normally say, "Miss, I can't find my pulse! I'm dead!" finally had an opportunity to realize that they did have a pulse, and could engage in data collections.
Without your help and support for this project, none of this would have been possible. So thank you all so much for helping out my students.”

Seeing the I in Science: Diversity in Science Fiction
Funded Aug 22, 2016It has been such a pleasure to see my students coming and taking these books off the shelf. So many of the books that are thought of as English "classics" do not reflect my students whatsoever, whether it is their backgrounds, their experiences or their identities. With these books, I am able to fill that huge gap that exists in their reading.
Many of these books have been flying off the shelves. Some student favorites have been the Legend series by Marie Lu, and the Ms. Marvel comics as well. I have had students who I don't even teach during my regular classes come in, see these book and ask if they can borrow them. I have had great conversations with students about the stories they have read and the characters they love. What is even better, is I have students who are now excited to get more books from these authors or series so they can continue to follow these characters. There is nothing I like to hear more than "Miss, do you have the next book?"
Without your support and enthusiasm for this project, none of this would have been possible. So thank you so much for being able to help my students find their own voice in the books they read.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Paradise
