  • Blast from the Past: Medieval Times Festival

    Funded Jun 1, 2016

Each year we have a Medieval Festival to celebrate our learning in social studies class. All of our content area teachers get involved through the integration of the topic. Last year, Math and Science collaborated to design and build catapults. Social Studies and ELA worked together to conduct research and create presentations for the public about the historical era. The PE department helped students create games for the day, our Dance classes showcased dances from the time period. Our Arts department helped with creating shields, swords, and replicas from the Medieval period. The day was a success but will be so much more successful this year now that this grant has been funded. I will make sure to post more pictures of the celebration after this day.

The funding of this grant was granted after the completion of the project. We will have this years students working on this in March, April, and May.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Seebeck

Our middle school is located in a suburban area and serves a diverse population of students between sixth and eighth grades. 43% of our learners are English language learners. They respond very well to lessons where they are actively involved in their own learning because they are building life experiences to which they can anchor their learning, making it more relevant. Rich experiences like our Medieval Festival excite the students about learning world history because they create their own presentations and invite other grade levels as guests. They have consulted local community leaders and business owners about the math and engineering involved in creating some of the props for the festival. They applied for and interviewed for each job involved in the project.
