I have a very diverse group of 19 second grade students who LOVE to read. There are 5 different languages spoken in our classroom, half of our class are English Language Learners, and they can read anywhere from a kindergarten to a fourth grade reading level. Many of my students are refugees from countries in SE Asia with a few from African countries. School is their safe haven where they are fed breakfast, lunch and dinner, have warm classrooms, books to read and teachers to love and educate them.
