  • I See Clear Skies in Our Forecast.

    Funded Dec 26, 2023

Thank you for your generous donation. Getting students to see past textbooks and how things work in the real world is important to get them excited about learning. I hope by providing my students with real scientific equipment that they can actually use, they can feel empowered to learn more about their world.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. LaFranca

  • How Can I do My Physic Assignments Without Basic Supplies?

    Funded Aug 21, 2020

Thank you for your generous donation. With the uncertainties of remote learning and the drastic cuts to my school’s budget, these supplies that you helped to fund will go a long way in helping my students learn.

It is a shame that many of my students can not afford the basic school supplies to complete their homework or home based projects. Again, from the bottom of my heart- thank you.”

  • Down to My Last Two Cases of Copy Paper. Help!!

    Funded Feb 10, 2016

Thank you for contributing to my classroom supplies. It is something as essential as paper. As you can see from my profile, I am a science teacher. One of the tools that I use to help students learn complex ideas are lab activities. Lab activities use a lot of paper because labs contain lots of text, data collecting, graphs, and questions. Most of my labs contain 8 to 10 pages. Times that by 147 students, and then by 41 lab activities; you can see how quickly paper can be used. This is not including all the exams, quizzes and homework that also use a tremendous amount of paper.

So thank you all so much.”

  • I Can't Believe That I Forgot the Printer

    Funded Aug 2, 2015

Great news, the computers are finally here and so is the printer that you generously donated. Thank you so much! Over the next 2 weeks, the Special Ed teacher and myself will begin creating an online classroom to help struggling students. The website will allow students to work at their own pace, allowing them to learn better. My ELA teacher is also researching other websites that would benefit my English learners. Your printer will help my students print important teaching tools from these websites like: worksheets, glossaries and graphic organizers.

Having technology in the classroom is so important is teaching the wide range of learners that I service. Thank you once again for your support.”

  • Starting a New Job with No Paper, Please Help.

    Funded Jan 2, 2015

Thank you for your generous donation used for the purchase of copy paper. It is a shame that some city public schools are so under funded that necessary items, like copy paper, needs to be donated by people like you. Now that I have the ability to print more labs and worksheets for my students, I feel that my students are on the road to do better in my class. "Practice makes perfect" and that is what these cases of paper will allow my students to do - practice. Once again, thank you for your support.”

  • Dictionaries to Increase Vocabulary in a Science Class

    Funded May 6, 2014

I would like to thank you for your generous donation. Unfortunately, due to a shipping and receiving error, I just received the dictionaries this past Thursday. The students last day of school was this past Friday, so I could not put the dictionaries into use this year.

However, rest assure that these dictionaries will be put in good use next year. I hope to start next year's class using these dictionaries very early in the beginning of the school year. It was very unfortunate that we received these books so late.

Thank you once again for supporting my project.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. LaFranca

  • Please Help Urban Students Learn About Growing Plants

    Funded Feb 10, 2014

Thank you for your generous donation. The plant rack is finally here and the students have already planted their seeds. We are hoping that the seeds will reach maturity before the beginning of May. If this happens, students will learn how the pH of the soil can affect the color of the flowers that the plants produce. This will be hands on learning as the students had to prepare and maintain everything in the experiment.

I am also planning to use this plant rack early next year to help demonstrate the scientific method to our incoming freshmen. The gift that you have given to my school will keep on giving for years to come. Thank you again.”

  • Biology Class in Desperate Need of Living Things

    Funded Dec 18, 2013

I would like to thank you for your generous donation to my project. Although my students will not use the equipment until April, the equipment will make a huge impact on the students in the way they learn.

One of the hottest topics in the news today is the environment. How can we improve the environment? How is human behavior affecting organisms' habitats? One of the concepts my students will learn from your donated equipment is the ecosystems are delicate and that each organisms living in them has an inter connection between them. If one organism is affected than the entire ecosystem will be affected.

Once again thank you for allowing me to bring some hands on activity into my classroom. I am sure my students will enjoy this lesson.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. LaFranca

  • New Microscopes

    Funded Dec 26, 2012

Thank you for your generous donation. The microscopes that you helped purchase will bring much needed enrichment to our microscope labs and activities. Previously, any labs or activities involving microscopic organisms were done using PowerPoint slides, because the microscopes we currently have are all broken.

Now my students can actually see microscopic organisms through their own eyes instead of pictures. They can watch how an amoeba eats or how a paramecium swims through water. These microscopes may also encourage them to bring in their own specimens so that they can explore their own world.

One again thank you for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. LaFranca
