  • Snack Attack

    Funded Dec 9, 2024

My students and I would like to express our gratitude for your support and generosity in supplying snacks to our school. The snacks come in handy for when students are hungry before their lunchtime, which is at the end of the day, and they are able to have something quick to carry them over until then.

When the students saw all the boxes of snacks they were excited. They asked "where did they come from?", and I gave them a quick history of Donors Choose, and how generous people (donors) give towards projects.

At this time, in English Language Arts and Math the children are being prepared for the upcoming ELA and Math State Exams, and it can be intense. Many times they want to stay on my prep period to learn additional strategies, instead of going to a PE Class, or Dance Class, and they are given a snack as they practice various strategies in order to be successful.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nesbitt

  • WRITERS SUPPLIES

    Funded Aug 31, 2016

My class and I would like to thank you for funding our project "Writer's Supplies." With your added support of providing these supplies, you have allowed us to be able to have a surplus of supplies, which will possibly last throughout the first half, if not the end of the school year.

During our most recent unit, the students analyzed various poems, and created visual representations of their interpretations. By connecting their visual/drawing of the poems to the poems' central ideas, the students showed how adding visual elements to poetry can clarify the main idea. For this project, they used many of the donated supplies (construction paper, pencils, markers, and notebooks). They loved the flexibility and creativity that the project allowed, and many came in after school multiple days in order to finish it.

My students also write in their journals (notebooks) twice daily, in both reading and writing class. Having the notebooks as a resource for note-taking and personal writing keeps their writing skills sharp, while also ensuring accountability for their daily lessons. Right now, the students are using the skills they learned from the poetry project to examine central idea in their own independent reading books, which they will then write a "companion book" about.

We deeply appreciate your graciousness, and as we continue to use all of the supplies in our reading and writing classes, we will cherish your donation by writing more.

Once again, we want to thank you, and let you know how much you are appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nesbitt

  • Supplies Much Needed

    Funded Jan 5, 2012

I would like to personally thank all sponsors that donated to my project called "Much Needed

Supplies." My class and I really appreciate your kindness and support, whereas I personally could

not afford to purchase the supplies myself. We will be using the supplies donated for class and home

assignments. My school was hit with severe budget cuts whereas we lost several staff members,

and we also were subjected to monetary loss and could not purchase much needed supplies. I thank

you in advance, and know that the supplies are well appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nesbitt

  • Discovering Metamorphosis

    Funded Dec 5, 2005

I am writing to thank you for funding my "Discovering Metamorphosis" proposal. My class and I will enjoy the hands on experience, which they can actually view the metamorphosis process first hand. We deeply appreciate being chosen by you to fund our project, thanks again”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nesbitt

My children are children with Special Needs of all capabilities and learning modalities. Some require more assistance than others. They are required to work within their capability, but more of a hands-on approach. Supplies is much needed to acquire copies, and/or learning materials, which we lack because of budgetary constraints. My school is a public school which was a former SURR School. Most students receive free or reduced lunch, our school is in the South Bronx, and is up for Quality Review this year. Our community from which our students come is composed of public housing, Section 8, and students residing in shelters, most in single-family homes or reside with other family members.
