As a first year teacher I want to make sure my classroom is off to a great start. One crucial aspect of the class is having a well stocked library with current and culturally relevant books. My students have some common interests No one student is the same, and as I get to know my students, I'm seeing their personalities shine through. And as a way to honor their unique identities, I want to provide them with resources that make them feel seen. I want my students to have access to books that reflect their lives and experiences, as well as books that expose them to new narratives and ways of thinking. Reading, like any skill, requires practice and consistency. My hope is that these books will turn hesitant readers into avid readers, and avid readers into advanced readers.
