Organizing Our Bodies and Our Space
Funded Mar 22, 2019I do not have the words to express the gratitude I have for everyone that helped fund this project! My students will benefit so much from the tools your donations have provided. I truly believe that true access to education means providing each student with the specific tools they need. That may look different for each individual student and sadly our school system does not provide the funding needed to do this completely. The generosity from this project really helps. The seat sacks, timers, pocket charts and drying rack will provide tools for equity in our very diverse classroom.
When my students entered the classroom and saw their new seat sacks they were so excited! They immediately started decorating their name cards to make their seat sacks unique to them. They were excited to gather all of their writing and math folders and organizing them in the seat sacks. I believe that each student in my class deserves to get what they need to help them learn better. Some students place fidgets or better writing tools in their seat sacks for easy access while other use it to hold additional writing paper or just right books. Several of my students use timers to assist with transitions or during a break. These students get to get their individual timers in their seat sacks as well.
As we wrap up the school year we will be cleaning out and reorganizing our room and materials. The students will help to empty out their seat sacks and to prepare them for next years students. They are currently using the drying rack to store their end of year self portraits and will continue to use their timers for self guided work and group activities. Thank you again for giving and helping us reach our goal! It has been amazing to see how just a few extra resources can become such an integral part of our classroom and impact our learning!”

A Place for Everyone to Gather, Grow and Learn!
Funded Feb 2, 2016The colorful rug that you helped bring into my classroom has become our community gathering space. We gather every morning on our "circle and square spots" to greet each other and share. We also spend most of our day learning and exploring on the rug. My students listen to stories, sing, read books independently and with partners, do hands on activities, and play all on our new rug. There have been so many wonderful memories made on the rug including puppet show performances and hands on learning. This past November we gathered on the rug and ground our own flour! The wheat got everywhere but the students had so much fun.
Not only does the rug provide a great place to gather, it brings brightness to our classroom. When we unrolled it the students were so excited! They love the colorful squares and alphabet letters. It has made the classroom so much more inviting. Having designated spaces for each child has also been very important to our community building. This allows the children to interact with each other while learning all about personal space. The students have taken ownership for the rug and try very hard to keep it clean so new kindergartners can enjoy it next year!
Currently we are spending a lot of time on the rug sharing our hopes and dreams for next year. As the year winds down, we come to gather on our rug that has brought so much comfort and consistency to our classroom. We share our favorite memories from this last year in kindergarten and talk about what we are looking forward to in First Grade. The students are getting excited to start cleaning the classroom and begin putting all of our materials away. They even suggested that we clean the rug with a really big sponge and then roll it up to stay clean for next year!
Again, thank you all for your donations. The rug has become a prize possession of our class and we cannot imagine our room without it!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Laura
