One issue I am facing in the classroom is the distraction of cellular devices, even though it goes against classroom expectations to even have them out of a bag during class. I believe if I offer a charging station for their devices during class time, it will create a distraction-free opportunity for students to focus on learning, rather than their phones. They will also receive the benefit of charging their devices for 50 minutes. Since the onset of the pandemic, our school has gone to a one-to-one device system. Students tend to remember to bring their devices but rarely bring them charged or have their chargers. When they do have chargers, I have very limited plugs for them to use. The power strips, charging cords, and cubes will facilitate that effort to keep their Chromebooks charged. Finally, I have a classroom library that contains many books. The students are always looking for new and exciting books to read. Adding to that library will keep them interested in reading, which, in turn, increases their vocabulary and overall IQ.
