  • Starting With the Basics

    Funded May 3, 2022

My students were delighted with the new stools we received. They are so much lighter than the heavy chairs we used to use in our classroom. It allows them to move around the room more easily and we can stack them away if we need more room during class. Overall, the class seems a little bit lighter with our new stools.

It makes a student feels more complete when he/she can start a new school year with new materials. Last year, we had to use left over subject notebooks because I could not afford to buy that many new ones. This year each student will start the school year with a new subject notebook. It is the little things that make the most impact in this world.

Storage has always been a problem within the special needs classroom because of the usually small size of the room. Our new storage ottomen allows me to store away things that are not relevent at the moment. It also provides another area to sit while reading or having discussions.

I want to thank those responisble for sponsoring this projetc. You make the world a better place.”

    With gratitude,

  • Monkey See Monkey Do

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Your generosity has provided our class to be more productive in this virtual world we are experiencing. This document camera has been invaluable because it allows this instructor to provide hands on activities via our Team's class meeting.

I am excited to say that beginning tomorrow, our students will be returning to our classroom. I am anxious to see their expressions when they have a new piece of technology to explore.

I have a few students who will benefit from this new camera because they aren't afraid to explore new concepts.. They are far more advanced with technology than I and may even teach this old dog some new tricks.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Miller

  • Reading Across Levels

    Funded Mar 6, 2020

I just wanted to take the time to thank you for the wonderful books that were donated to our classroom. Our students have truly enjoyed the wide selection you made possible through your donation.

So far we have had many lessons on comparing and contrasting characters and settings. We have also written many summaries using these texts. However, I think our greatest joy comes when we just get to read for the enjoyment of reading. No assignments, no papers to fill out or questions to answer.

I like, when the students were in the classroom, to see them move to a comfortable, isolated place and get immersed into a book. These quiet times provide each of us a time to recharge and get ready for the rest of our day.

Most of our students are independent readers but there are a few that struggle. I am so happy that within the books that were donated the reading levels were vast. My struggling readers have a variety of books to choose from as do my advanced readers.

As a teacher, during these trying times, it was a true gift to have received these books because that is one less thing I have to worry about. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for providing my class with these books.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Miller

  • Becoming WONDERful Through Reading

    Funded Oct 18, 2017

First and foremost, I want thank the donors for making this project a reality. Our class will focus on the concept of Being Kind throughout the reading of this text. Reading and comprehending a text takes on many forms. Our classroom, is focusing on understanding the written word through ongoing discussions, creating visual images, and maintaining a running journal of events, character feelings, and causes and effects.

Our classroom takes on the appearance of organized chaos. There are pairs, groups, and individual readers spread throughout the room. Each sharing, arguing important points, debating the importance of a certain passage, or quietly reading by him/herself. In the end, we all come together to share what we have discovered and enlighten each other with an explanation of our learning targets for the day. All in all, we are reading for meaning and not to take a test or complete a journal entry.

I have found, through this second reading of the text - 'Wonder', that just about everyone of my students are enjoying the adventures Auggie has presented on the pages. There are many opportunities to connect with each character on a personal note because they have all provided many situations which our classmates can share. I love that even those students who are not regular contributors within classroom discussion have found a voice during our shared discussion times.

All in all, this has truly been a gift that I believe will continue to pay it forward for many years to come as I plan to repeat this activity each year. So, again thank you to those who made the donations and God Bless!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Miller

Our classroom is a new classroom that was just added onto the school. It has the basic necessities and nothing more and these materials will make our room a more pleasurable place to learn. The rug will give us a place to meet in small groups as well as providing the students with more comfortable place to read or work on projects. The lamps will soften the bright florescent lights that we currently have, and the bean bags will provide a comfy spot to learn. All educators understand that only when a child feels comfortable will they truly try to do their best.
