In my 16 years of being in this classroom, teaching classes comprised of very diverse individuals, I've witnessed many students struggle to succeed simply because they are not comfortable. I've long since imagined the proposed items in our space and the powerful change they would create in the working environment and in my students. By donating to our project you will be giving access to a more peaceful learning environment for all students. Where some prefer to be seated at a table alone or in a quiet nook to work undisturbed, other students find it challenging to stay seated in order for their work to be done. The activity and motion about the room not only hinders these students who need to stretch and stand, but in their "visiting" they interrupt the creative flow of their more introverted peers. One of the beautiful things about art-making is there is no one correct answer. In creating a physical manifestation of this broad stroke of what is "right" within the workspace itself, I hope each individual student will feel honored in their need for comfort when creating, whatever that looks like for them. I yearn to see all of my students, not just some, thrive in exploring their creative processes and fully benefit in both the pleasure and the therapeutic nature of art-making so that all may find a personal refuge in his or her unique expression.
