A key part of our Civics course is providing students with a science and art of organizing so they can see themselves in the change they will pursue. They will identify policies, strategies and movement building examples to define their own agency and commitment for civic and social change. These two books are great primers, with tons of relevant examples from Black Lives Matter to Occupy Wallstreet, that students can draw upon for inspiration and direction in their own social change projects. By incorporating some of the tactics, strategies and lessons of the social movement described in vivid detail in these books, students will have a much deeper appreciation for what it takes to win the change they want to see.
