  • Sensory Tiles for Pre-K!

    Funded Jul 14, 2023

I am so excited to know that such wonderful people stepped up to provide my students with these wonderful sensory tiles! I can't thank you enough for your kindness and generosity. These tiles will make such a difference for my students. I cannot wait for the students to see this addition to our calming corner. What a wonderful place this will be for them to take a break, refocus, self regulate, or just read a book when they need some quiet time. Thank you again for helping to give my students the tools they need to be emotionally ready to learn.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mahr

  • Personal Art Materials for Pre-K Students

    Funded Aug 31, 2020

I would like to once again sincerely thank you for your donations of art materials to my classroom. The new resources are working wonderfully for the students. Thanks to you, each student has received their own personal art tray, art bin, markers, crayons, glue sticks, scissors, and paint. Students do not have to share materials this year!

When I told the parents they did not have to supply art materials for the children, it was quite a relief that they would not have worry about a 'back to school' shopping list during the pandemic and times of economic hardship. Parents were so grateful that donors have come together to help purchase these materials for THEIR children. The students enjoy having their own materials that have THEIR own pictures on them! They are learning to be responsible for their belongings and learning to use materials safely without the worry of Covid-19 germs from a shared bin of supplies.

Student have been busy with their materials and learning to write their names, practicing fine motor control, decorating our classroom, creating personal works of art, and most recently, making Holiday cards for their family members! Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mahr

This classroom project was brought to life by Con Edison and 6 other donors.
This year students will not be able to share materials. These resources will help to keep each students art supplies organized and self-contained. I want to continue to have a classroom environment that is welcoming, colorful and full of imagination for my young learners. This environment is one they will create themselves with their artwork! For my students, their art, drawing, painting, and pre-writing tells their story. As diverse as my students are, art is the means by which I encourage the children to communicate and express themselves. Students use art to deepen and express their ideas and learning, and record their experiences. Art encourages language, connects to literacy, promotes communication, and fosters fine motor skills.
