Providing Accessibility through Technology: Preparing Students for College Independence
Funded Nov 29, 2022Thank you for your generosity in donating to my project. With this new IPAD set up my student is now able to efficiently and effectively take notes and complete assignments in math class. He is feeling comfortable using this device, which is a remarkable improvement from his feelings when trying to endure the pain of writing with pencil and paper. He is also becoming more organized now that he has the iPad. Our goal is for him to use this as he transitions into college as well. He is becoming familiar with different note taking apps and preparing himself for college in that regard.
I can't begin to thank you enough for helping me to open more doors for my student!
Thank you again,
Ms. DeVico”

This classroom project was brought to life by an Anonymous Classroom Supporter and 9 other donors.A Glimpse of the World for Our Leaders of Tomorrow
Funded Mar 9, 2016Our students embarked on three separate service learning trips in South America to Ecuador, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic this past summer. While the itineraries on each trip varied, all students were immersed in a cultural experience that was designed to help them become global citizens. Each itinerary included days like, culture day, history day, poverty day, education day, living like a local, and politics day. These itineraries supported students as they immersed themselves fully in a developing country.
The curriculum and overall experience also helped students to develop and enhance their very own leadership skills. Each student was tasked with being leader of the day. This responsibility required that they lead a group of their peers through the day's activities within the foreign country. All students expressed that this experience helped them to overcome fears, develop confidence, and find their own voice.
The trip did not end in Latin America. Upon returning home our students were so inspired by their experience that they became ambassadors to the program to ensure that future generations of students have access to the same opportunities that they were afforded. I find our students having conversations regularly now with other members of our school community about their experience. Together they are pushing the thinking of their own community trying to slowly change the opinions and habits of those around them. Furthermore, many of them have chosen to write about their experiences for their own personal statements for college.
This was a trip of a lifetime and these students will never forget the support you gave them in helping make this a reality.”
