Funded Jan 19, 2016First, I would like to take this opportunity to let you know how grateful I am for your generous donation to my students and our classroom. My students and I were over the moon excited to receive our resources just a few weeks after our project was fully funded! My student are always very enthusiastic and eager learners but they couldn't wait to break open the plastic wrapping and seals of our new resources.
In our classroom we do numerous cooperative learning activities on a daily basis and make sure to incorporate at least one Math Station Activity day into our lesson plans. During this time the students work in groups to do various hands-on activities like math related games, task cards, math website activities or concepts scavenger hunts. With that being said, my students were greatly anticipating our Station day once they saw our new materials coming through the door. They just could not wait to utilize all of the new and exciting math games and manipulatives we received thanks to you.
Hands-on learning is hands down the best way for students to learn because they don't realize that they have actually retained the concepts that have been taught. But to their surprise, they are easily applying those concepts while playing these educational games. The most amazing thing about incorporating hands-on learning activities into our curriculum is seeing them apply the skills and objectives they are learning everyday to play these games. They have absolutely no idea how much they have retained until they have to apply there knowledge to compete with their classmates. The best part is that even the student who has a hard time retaining information or doesn't learn as quickly as others is overjoyed to be able to get to the next level in a math game because they finally realized that they get it now.
Research can prove that students learn most from what they do as well as from other students and my students are making great gains thanks to the hands-on learning we have merged into our everyday learning. Your donation is doing this for these students!!
We are truly grateful for what you have provided for our classroom! We look forward to more and more days of using the materials you have provided for us. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Farrior
