  • Board Games with Math Strategies

    Funded Sep 7, 2017

The games that we have received are being used during an after school enrichment club. The students in the club are having fun and enjoying being together playing the games. It was clear when I began this enrichment group that these students had not spend much time playing board games at home. Through the time we have spent together they are learning how to work together, take turns, listen to one another, encourage each other and following directions. In addition to these very important skills, the students have also been practicing some really important math skills like strategic thinking, sequencing, recognizing attributes of shapes, estimating, mental math and the four operations. We are really enjoying the time together learning! Thank you!”

  • Create a Positive Classroom Climate

    Funded Sep 1, 2016

Thank you so much for the generous donation that you have made to our classroom. The students are very excited about the new books that we received for our project. They have enjoyed reading the new stories and looking at the vibrant pictures.

The books, printer and dry erase boards that we received have been an incredible contribution to our classroom environment. I have been able to use the materials to build exciting projects that connect the character traits that we are learning about each month to the literature we read. The printer can help me easily document this exciting work and post it in our classroom. The students are very proud of the work they are doing and love seeing it displayed.”

  • Help Students Share their Understandings

    Funded Jan 23, 2016

Thank you so much for your incredibly generous donation to our classroom! I am so pleased with the impact that this piece of technology has had on my students' willingness to share their ideas.

Upon introducing the ELMO tablet to my students, they were extremely intrigued by it. They couldn't wait to see what it could do and give it a try. They were impressed with the way that I could manipulate the SMARTboard from anywhere in the classroom. It particularly helped the students who were presenting their work and struggling to get their ideas across because, from anywhere in the room, I am now able to add in drawings, and calculations to help students bridge their understanding. They were also excited that if I was working in a small group and someone presented something that would be valuable to the entire class, they were able share it much easier from their seats

Having this technology has helped ensure that student engagement and sharing of ideas is more accessible to students. They are even more excited to share their ideas! It has helped our class grow as a community where all students' thoughts and strategies are valued.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Vail

  • Math Center Materials Needed

    Funded Feb 11, 2016

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. When I opened the packages of clipboards, math games and center materials, the students couldn't wait to get started.

The games have been the most exciting for the kids. They love being able to practice their math skills in game form. I have been using the games as a review center in class so that they have an enjoyable way to keep skills from earlier in the year fresh in their minds. The students have loved them so much that they actually ask to play them as soon as they are done with any class work they have. Even students who are apprehensive to participate in math class have been motivated to use these centers.

The other materials provided through this project, clipboards, dry erase markers and individual place value boards, have been a great way to get all kids engaged at the same time. The kids love having materials that are theirs alone. It makes them feel really special and motivated to do their work.

Thank you again for thinking of my kids. I can't tell you how much I appreciate watching them get so excited to use engaging math materials. You've given them the opportunity to learn in a new exciting way and I am extremely grateful!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Vail

Our school provides a culture that encourages students to think deeply and critically about what they learn. Learning topics are connected to the students' interests which makes them enthusiastic about their learning. Our classroom activities focus on the conceptual understandings of math and students love finding patterns and multiple ways to solve problems. The students I work with are proud of their learning and love to share their ideas and thinking. Since we encourage a safe learning environment, even struggling students feel comfortable participating, asking questions and presenting work.
