One of the worst parts of my job is not being able to give my students everything that they need. Especially when I work with a population of students who need so much. Every year I have had students who have experienced trauma, behavioral issues, or learning difficulties. We do the best we can as a school but it's never enough. One of the most difficult things for me this year specifically is not having resources I need. Most of the items I requested would only be provided to students who have it specified in their IEP's or to teachers in a special education classroom, but I have many others who will greatly benefit. Trauma in students is very individualized in how it is expressed but some of the issues that arise in the classroom is the lack of concentration, hyper activity, anxiety and fidgeting. The resources that I requested would give me a supply of equipment that can be used year to year to help ease some discomfort that students may be experiencing. For instance; the wobble cushion/chairs will be used to help students who need assistance settling down and concentrating. Weighted cushions can be used to help anxiety, calming meltdowns, and making transitions easier.
