  • Art Library to Inspire Children

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

Thank you for funding this project! My students love looking at art books, and I'm particularly excited to show them this collection. These books are sure to open students' minds about what counts as art and what can be an art material and process. Thank you for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher Shinn

This classroom project was brought to life by Dollar General Literacy Foundation and one other donor.
  • Diversity in Art

    Funded Sep 27, 2021

Thank you so much for generously funding our project! I cannot wait to share these books and resources with students. I'm especially looking forward to seeing the vibrant, energetic paintings students make in response to learning about Jean Michel Basquiat's art! Thank you for supporting and encouraging creativity and racial inclusion!”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher Shinn

  • Air Dry Clay Sculptures

    Funded Jan 20, 2021

Thank you so much for helping us buy air-dry clay!

Due to Covid precautions, we were not able to share art supplies this past year. We mostly used markers and crayons that students brought to art class. The air-dry clay was a really exciting change of material for us! Students were excited to squoosh, mold, roll, poke, and, in general, to feel the clay in their hands and to work three-dimensionally. Your generous support helped students have this creative fun for an entire month. It was a highlight of our school year.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher Shinn

  • Creating Comic Books

    Funded Mar 2, 2020

Thank you for funding our comic book project! My students will be so excited to analyze these comic books & to use them as inspiration for their own creations. We can hardly wait to get started on this project! What a great way to finish the school year. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher Shinn

  • Learning Sculpture Concepts Through Building Sets

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

Thank you so much for supporting our Building Sets project. Students can hardly contain their excitement! When students walk into the art room and see the building sets on tables, there are many squeals, claps, gasps, and excited faces. As they work, I love to see the collaboration and determination. These sets tend to bring out the best in students. Students are so motivated by their ideas that they push through challenges and set backs with ease. What I love to see most is how different types of creativity come through in their work. Some students make things to wear, some enjoy structural challenges, some make pieces for performances, some make games and encourage audience participation, some work strategically while others work more organically and spontaneously. These building sets allow students to explore their own creative motives and tendencies in a way that group projects cannot.

Thank you for helping me create this exciting learning environment and stimulating my students' creativity!”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher Shinn

Each elementary students gets one hour of Art class per week at my school. This makes sculpture/three-dimensional projects particularly challenging. In addition to time restraints, we also have all 520 students sharing storage space and supplies. Building sets help me teach some of the same concepts as sculpture lessons without the need to store 520 sculptures. Lessons can be completed in one class period. Students learn about balance, connections, and form. In addition, building sets provide ample opportunity for creative play, imagination, and collaboration. If you donate to this project, you will help me teach 3-dimensional art concepts through exciting building sets.
