Sensory Needs for Our Youngest Learners
Funded Dec 15, 2021Wow you have some super excited and happy kids here! They were so curious when the large boxes showed up in our room and they couldn't wait to open them. The timing of the delivery couldn't have been better. The day prior we had a lot of commotion due to a flood in our building and the kids really needed some cheer.
When we opened the couch, they all immediately took turns sitting on it and noting how bouncy it was. We decided to put it in our library center since it looked like such a comfy place to sit and read. They loved the flexible seats so much and said they were so nice and soft. The red sensory dog was also a big hit. They all thought it looked just like Clifford the big red dog (even though the name Patrick is embroidered on his ear). We are still deciding what to call him but we thought that putting him in our safe space was the perfect place. Safe space is part of our classroom where children can sit when they are feeling strong emotions. It's a place where they can calm down and be alone for a moment, but now Patrick (or Clifford) can keep them company!
When we opened the new water table, the children thought that someone had sent us pipes. I think they were just as excited because we are wrapping up a study on tubes and tunnels and pipes have become very exciting to them. I think they will be even more enthusiastic once I put the table together and then understand what it is. We have needed a new water table for some time, the one we currently had is not in good shape but we've been making it work, as teachers often do. The new table looks so sturdy and it will bring joy to many children in the future.
Thank you so much for helping me create a space for my children that they can explore, feel joy and be at home!”
With gratitude,

Funded Sep 14, 2016My students and I love our new shelves! We got to work immediately putting the shelves together with the help of the children. Now our closet is much more organized. We can find materials for themes and units when we need them. I also feel more comfortable having the children help me look for things in the closet because I am no longer scared that they will be hurt by something falling on them. The new shelves have given children access to the materials we use, so that they can choose what we use in our classroom at any given time.
My students were so excited when they first saw the boxes, they had many questions and ideas about what might be in them. They were very helpful in actually assembling the shelves and felt proud when they saw what they had built. I think our next project may be for a projector for our classroom.
Thank you so much to our many donors for their donations, we are very grateful for your help!”
