  • Language Acquisition for English Language Learners

    Funded Aug 16, 2022

Thank you so much for helping to fund this project. We are currently using this Listening Center to help our English Language Learners hear differences in sounds, solidifying their Phonemic Awareness. We have listening centers to help hear rhyming patterns, blending the sounds in words, hearing short and long vowel sounds, among many others.

As you may or may not know, in Arizona, our ELLs are required to take the Arizona English Language Learner's Assessment (AZELLA) in the Spring. One portion of the assessment is a listening portion, where students must listen to a passage, a word, a sentence, or a description given and must choose the correct response. This listening center has really helped prepare the students for success in this portion.

I cannot begin to explain our gratitude for helping us to achieve our goals.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McCrayton

  • A New Beginning

    Funded Mar 14, 2022

I cannot emphasize how much of an impact you placed on our students. The moment they walked into the classroom, the improvement was met with "OOHs!" and "AWWs". The students were so excited to sit down on the rug and point out all the letters and pictures to go with them. The brightness of the colors really made our classroom feel more comforting and happy.

Can you imagine their astonishment when I told the students that the rug and easel were donated by strangers who had never met them before? They couldn't believe that someone would be nice enough to GIVE them items for their classroom without any questions asked. They wanted to be sure I give you all such a warm and heartfelt thank you.

Each day, students are so happy to interact with their new materials. Students often volunteer to show their work on our new easel. They want to be the helpers by offering to gather materials and place them in the work baskets underneath as well. I cannot wait to see what other exciting things arise from having such wonderful additions to our classroom. Once more, thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McCrayton

  • Help Retire Our Elder Books

    Funded Jul 12, 2017

I cannot begin to explain how much my students are enjoying their new books! These books are not only new (our books are super old), but they are on interesting topics that my kids are interested in! It is so refreshing to hear my students tell me that they love my library and the books that are in them compared to their comments on my old boring books. When I told them that our friends in another place donated books for us to read, they were so excited to read them that I had no trouble at all keeping them on track. Thank you again for all that you have done for our classroom! We really appreciate it.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McCrayton

  • Leveled Library Leading Towards Literacy!

    Funded Dec 30, 2016

We cannot thank you enough for your contribution to our classroom. As soon as my students walked into the classroom, they noticed our wonderful, new bookshelf and all of the colorful bins. They immediately wanted to know where it came from. When I explained to them that many people helped by donating money to our cause, they immediately wanted to know who you were and how they could thank you. When I explained to them that they would be writing you thank you letters they exploded with enthusiasm. They couldn't be happier to tell you how thankful they are.

After getting the literacy library set up with all of the books into the leveled bins, students were eager to start using it. We, of course, went over rules and procedures for using the library and how we should take care of our books. As of now, students are able to more easily select a book that is at the correct reading level for them and are spending less time searching through the books. That means more time is dedicated towards reading and responding to questions than looking for a book. Our time with our kids is so precious that we never want to waste even a minute of their time.

Of course, we are not finished here. Learning to read and learning which books that are right for us is only the first step. Now that we have the correct location to put our books in, we are in dire need for books. Our next step will be to fill our literacy library with just right books for every student. Currently I have books generally in the third to fifth grade reading levels. However, I have students that read at various levels. We would like to complete a new Donors Choose project that will include all levels of books. Please keep an eye out for us!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McCrayton

I am currently teaching English as a Second Language in my classroom. Many of our students come to school with very little English and are spending time with me in this class to receive some extra support. We focus mostly on vocabulary acquisition and reading. We make sure to have plenty of time to work on our speaking skills as well. For the last two years, our school has received 9 out of 10 state-appointed points towards our letter grade. By funding these projects, you would be helping our students gain a second language to aid them on their way towards success. Thank you, for anything you can give.
