  • Chromebook for Newly Immigrated Students

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

On behalf of International High School, we would like to thank you for donating the Chromebook laptops to our students.

The students appreciate using the Chromebooks because it helps translate information from their native language to English, as they read and write in class. Prior to receiving the laptops, the students had to rely on peer translation, depending on availability. These donations have allowed students to write their personal narrative in furtherance of their educational portfolio.

We rely on your generosity and are grateful for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kopple

  • Essential Items To Be In School!

    Funded Dec 10, 2017

Many of the students at the International High School at Union Square are unable to afford essential items like winter coats, cold weather accessories, and toiletries. Now, when students come in looking for these essentials, we can say "yes, we can help" rather than "no, sorry". Students who otherwise wouldn't have had a cozy knit hat, a pair of soft wool socks, or a warm winter coat are now comfortable during their commute to and from school, internship, and other extracurriculars. We've been able to hand out soap, lotion, toothpaste, and toothbrushes to students whose families need a bit extra at home. To see the students' sense of relief and joy when we're able to share these items makes a big difference in our days, and we couldn't have done it without our generous donors! Much love to all.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kopple

  • Essential Items To Be In School!

    Funded May 7, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our students. In the past, I have been limited by funding regulations as to who can be provided with essential items like backpacks or toiletries. With your contribution, now I can provide the needed items to any student that needs one of these items. Your giving is one of the things that make this world a kinder place.

Such contributions mean a lot to my students. Thank you for giving such essentials to my students so that they would continue to come to school despite facing economic hardships! It means the world to me to be able to give them what they needed because of your kind support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kopple

  • Chromebook for Newly Immigrated Students

    Funded Feb 10, 2017

We cannot thank you enough for your donation - it has truly made a world of difference to our students and their academic achievement and I know they are so grateful for your generosity.

Because of you, our immigrants students will have access to technological resources that will enable them to do school work at home and complete graduation requirements.

Our school functions on Goggle Drive/Docs and having a Chromebook to use in school and at home will allow our students to write essays and create portfolio presentations. Students are also able to use the Chromebook during our Saturday Academy to facilitate their learning. Instead of writing papers on their phones, students could now sit down at a Chromebook and work on graduation projects and Regents preparation.

Being able to access this technology changed students' outcomes - with this Chromebook, many students finished projects, studied for tests, and learned as well as achieved more than they would have without this technology.

You are making a sincere and tangible impact on our students' lives and their futures and we can't thank you enough.”

    With gratitude,

  • Tech and Food for New Immigrant Youth in NYC

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

    Dear Donors,

We cannot thank you enough for your donation - it has truly made a world of difference to our students and their academic achievement and I know they are so grateful for your generosity.

First, the snacks disappeared quickly and joyously. Students always come into our office asking for snacks and food, and they were so thrilled when we were able to restock our office and provide them with the resources they needed. So many students at our school come from low-income families or are the primary breadwinners in their families, and it meant a lot that we (and you!) could help them out in this way.

Of course, the Chromebooks also had a measurable positive impact on our students. Once they arrived, we immediately loaned them out to students who are without technology at home. Instead of writing papers on their phones, students could now sit down at a Chromebook and work on graduation projects and Regents preparation. Some students talked about how good it felt to be able to take the computer to Starbucks or a coffee shop and do work outside school, where they are usually stuck on old desktops. Being able to access this technology changed students' outcomes - with these Chromebooks they finished projects, studied for tests, and learned and achieved more than they would have without this technology. These computers really made a world of difference for these students, and we can't thank you enough.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kopple

Our students come from over 40 different countries and speak as many different languages. All our students arrived in the United States within the last 4 years, and range from the ages of 13 to 21. Many have had interrupted formal education and some have made the migration journey on foot. They all come with rich backgrounds full of struggle and perseverance, and we together are committed to their academic achievement and life advancement.
