Many of our students are recent immigrants from Africa, Asia and Latin America, and many of them are learning English as a second language. In addition, we have a large African-American student population and 95% of our students are eligible for free or reduced price lunch. Our school is surrounded by housing projects, poverty, and constant violence. Unfortunately there have been too many recent assaults and a few students have being robbed on the way to and from school (once from the main building to volleyball practice). However, this has not stopped many of our students from achieving and last year our top two students went to MIT. We also had students who went to other great colleges such as Cornell, Princeton, Harvard, Boston University, Northeastern and Wellesley. Life may not be easy for many of them, but they are great warriors who possess a great sense of humor and an appetite for greatness.
