Expanding Our Pollinator Garden Curriculum
Funded Nov 29, 2022Thank you so much for donating to expanding our pollinators project! My students were beyond excited to see bee jackets in their sizes and be able to inspect a hive with me for the first time using the gloves and jackets that were provided from your donations. By providing them with this opportunity, many students are learning how vital honey bees are to our gardens and ecosystems. Students are learning to embrace the bees and not be scared while taking care of them using the equipment funded by our generous donors.
The students were so excited about our 2 hives and wanted to plant as many flowers as possible to supply our bees with a good nectar flow when they arrived. The BeeSmart Garden curriculum provided excellent seeds, tips, and ideas for making sure we planted the correct plants for our bees to thrive. Without this, many students would have just picked pretty flowers and not considered which flowers bees would be more attracted to. This curriculum will be a great tool for many fourth graders to come as we continue caring for our bees.
We could not have done this without your support! From my fourth grade students and myself, thank you again for investing in our pollinators!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Davis
This classroom project was brought to life by an Anonymous Classroom Supporter and 2 other donors.A Pollinator's Dream!
Funded Nov 2, 2022Thank you so much for bringing our Pollinator Dreams to life with the purchase of a bee hive for our school. Although it has been too cold for our bees to arrive, my students have worked hard to prepare the hive using the books and equipment purchased. They have learned to bring the hive off the ground to protect it from predators, level the hive, and the use/purpose of each equipment piece as we prepare to welcome bees in just a few short weeks.
This project has brought our fourth grade ecosystems standards to life for my students! They have learned all about the food chain for the bees during the colder months versus the warmer months, what plants they would like more in the raised bed next to the hive, and what the ecosystem needs in order for the bees to thrive. They have started flower seedlings for the bees and are looking forward to planting them as soon as the ground warms up. Students saw real-life ecosystem issues with the lack of bees in our area and how it affects our crops and surrounding habitats, so thank you for donating to a bee hive for our school! We can't wait to watch our Pollinator population grow.”

Mrs. Davis
