  • Puberty Ed Kits 2024

    Funded Apr 4, 2025

Thank you so much for your support of my classroom! Puberty is such a challenging time for my students- emotionally, physically and economically. Your donation allows support in all three of these key areas.

I appreciate your willingness to provide resources to the students in my class- they deserve our care and support!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Atkins

  • A Safe Colorful Movement Mat!

    Funded Dec 10, 2024

Thank you so much for providing the new colorful tumbling mat for my classroom. My students are having a wonderful time exploring movement on such a safe mat.

They have used the different colors of the mat to set up different locomotor challenges which has been engaging to witness.

We have been able to incorporate new ways of moving through the tactile and vestibular parts of the brain dance- using rolling and spinning as prompts for movement.

My students were giddy when they first saw the mat and they continue to be captivated by different ways of using the mat.

Thank you again for you generosity!”

  • Uplifting Images of Ourselves

    Funded Mar 18, 2024

My students were really impacted in a powerful way after we read the book "Big" together . We were able to have meaningful discussions about the power of words and how they can be used to support positive and negative body imaging. They shared powerful examples from what they have seen so far in their lives.

They used the metallic markers to help highlight the words that expressed how they want to be seen in the world. They used the glue to add elements of collage to their work. The sketchbooks captured their initial images of positive body images.

Thank you again for you support. It means the world to me that there are people like you who join me in making a positive difference in the world.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Atkins

  • Creating Magical Gardens!

    Funded Apr 2, 2024

Thank you so much for your support of the Magical Gardens Project. Your funding allowed me to purchase air dry clay that the students used to create models of insects they observed during outside observations.

It is important for students to not only observe what they see in nature, but to also have ways to document their observations. The clay allowed them to create models of insects (ladybugs, caterpillars, snails) that they have seen in our gardens in abundance. The clay allowed them to create 3-D figures that they could paint to support what they saw in a creative way.

Thank you again for helping give my students the tools they need to thrive.”

    Ms. Atkins

  • The Power of Images!

    Funded Jan 19, 2024

I am so proud of my students. They have really tapped into discussing the power of images in their lives. Starting with Emory Douglas as a reference, they have brought in examples from their own lives and the world around them talk about the impact of images and look at them with a critical lens.

Students really enjoyed making buttons that reflected their take on self and the world around them. Not only did they make buttons that reflected their identification with an animal, but the also made buttons that messaged their connection with different emotions as well as buttons about issues that matter to them.

Thank you so much for your support in making this unit happen. I really appreciate you!

    Best,”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Atkins

  • Puberty Kits 101

    Funded Jan 9, 2024

Thank you so much for honoring my students with your support for this project. The onset of puberty can mean so many things to my young students. It is such a key moment in their lives. Yesterday, the girls came in groups to pick up their supplies. It was such a heartfelt, bonding experience for them.

The girls were so surprised and grateful that they had an array of products being offered to them. Many of them couldn't believe the level of generosity that was on display. After they filled their bags and we had time to reflect, more than one girl mentioned that she felt like this experience made puberty not feel so scary, that it might be okay!

Thank you again for your support!”

  • Creative Imagination Reboot!

    Funded Feb 3, 2023

Thank you so much for sharing your generosity with my classroom. The students have been using the materials that you have provided. They have already started to create sculptures with the clay based on Ohlone culture. They are thrilled to create the images for the buttons (button making machine) that allow them to share their knowledge about heros and she-roes in creative ways. It is so important to integrate the arts into the curriculum and your generous donation makes that possible.

I am thankful that my students have access to high quality creative tools to support their learning and growth!

    Best Day Ever!”

  • Tables to Read and Create!

    Funded Feb 3, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting my classroom. My students are having a ball using the new tables that have arrived. We have already put them to use supporting our Shadow Puppet exploration project. Students have written their own versions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and have used the tables to do the actual writing as well as supporting their mobile puppet theaters.

They will be performing their plays for younger students in the next 2 weeks and we could not have done this without your generous donation!

Thank you so much for supporting our school!!!”

  • Breathe, Relax, and Refocus!

    Funded Feb 2, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting my classroom. The students have been using the breathing spheres not only with the Todd Parr books, Peace and Love but they have also been using it to practice deepening and lengthening their breaths.

Students have been able to notice not only how the breathing can affect their emotions but also how it can be used to center their class community as well.

We have been working solo and in pairs to continue to use mindfulness as a tool to support their overall wellness.

Thank you for your generous support!!!”

  • Puberty Ed Kits 2023

    Funded Jan 22, 2023

Sometimes I think the week that I teach Puberty Education is the actual longest week in the year! It is fraught with emotions like nervousness, fear, embarrassment to name a few. It is also an important week for our students as they collectively are able to learn more about the changes that their bodies are going through.

It is so wonderful to be able to give the girls their puberty ed kits that contain an abundance of supplies to get them started and through their first couple of cycles. The girls really like being able to have time amongst themselves to look at the different products and talk about them as well as share what some of them are going through. They are also able to ask specific questions!

Thank you so much for your support of my classroom!”

My students are from all over the globe. We have students who are refugees from the current wars in Syria and Afghanistan, from different Asian countries, Latinos from Mexico, indigenous immigrants from Guatemala, African Americans from Oakland and immigrants from Haiti to name a few. They are all working to find a common language with each other and their communities. They are funny, diverse and have different ways of showing their intelligence. They all have the ability to succeed and help make our world a better, more peaceful place.
