My students need a variety of high interest, low-level books to read independently and improve their reading comprehension. Our school library does not have many engaging books at my students' reading levels. Many of my students have struggled in school for most of their lives and are not interested in reading because it is a challenge for them. The books that they are interested in reading are too difficult for them to read independently and the books at their level are not middle school appropriate books. My students are 2-3 grade levels behind in reading ability. It is a challenge to find age-appropriate, engaging books that are written at my students' ability levels. This project will help my students to become independent readers which will help them in all of their classes in middle school and beyond.
