    Funded Jul 25, 2018

Thank you, thank you, thank you! We are now funded and will be ready to begin our new school year in just a few weeks! This will have an incredible impact on my students’ learning. The books and globes will enhance their learning in both reading and social studies. Thanks again to all of you for your generosity and support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lopez

  • Books for Everyone!

    Funded Mar 11, 2016

    Dear Donors,

My students were so excited when our books and baskets arrived! They couldn't wait to open the boxes. I had explained to them what I had done and that some very generous people had donated money to fund our project. I teach in a low income city and many of my students don't have books at home so they really enjoy the books in our classroom. I have an inclusion classroom which includes special needs students and students who are just learning English. I was lacking in lower level reading books for my students to read independently, so that's what I requested in my project "Books for Everyone!". We received both fiction and nonfiction books along with baskets to store them in. Our books arrived just in time for our second nonfiction unit in reading! Now all of my students had books that they could read independently.

During our Guided Reading block some students are reading in a group with a teacher or paraprofessional, a few are on the computer doing a reading program and the rest of the students are reading independently. Then we switch the groups around. That is why it is so important to have books at every child's reading level so they can read independently! These new books not only filled a void but they inspired my struggling readers to want to read their new nonfiction books.

Some of my special needs students and my English language learners particularly benefited from reading these books. Their independent reading times became more quiet but more exciting. They had brand new books at their level! I am so grateful to the donors for this wonderful gift to my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lopez

I am a grade 2 teacher with an inclusion classroom in an urban district. My class is always looking for fun and exciting new ways to learn. My students have limited resources at home. Any materials they use come from my classroom. I am so excited for the possibility to get new engaging materials to help my students be the best they can.
