Our students face many challenges, high levels of poverty being one. Currently, the data on our school reflects that our students are performing well below their peers in the many areas. In an effort to increase more hands on experiences for our students, we need to have materials. Many of the students do not have access to clay to be able to make a bowl they can use at home, a collaborated totem pole that they may be talking about in history, or maybe even fossils beyond the school setting. As educators, we struggle for the financial and parental support that we need to incorporate a classroom library. Our parents do not actively engage in their child’s education and we currently have a non-functioning PTA. The lack of both put our students at a disadvantage.
