Help Us Create the Rainbow With a Color Printer!
Funded Aug 16, 2019Thank you so much for the donations. Starting at a new school and realizing I didn't have a printer in my classroom, I panicked. Most of the curriculum I use is online, and requires me to print student materials. I also purchase many resources online that I need to print. Having a printer in the classroom saves so much time and allows me to focus more on planning and the students, rather than walking back and forth to the office every time I need to print something. In addition, I like the students to print their writing and now I can do this straight from the classroom. It greatly benefits all of us in room 21.”

The 80's Called and They Want Their Pencil Sharpener Back!
Funded Jul 7, 2016I understand this is late, as the project was funded awhile ago, I must have missed something and I'm sorry! Good news is that the pencil sharpener is still going strong and I use it daily! It has impacted 4 classes since the project was funded and I imagine it has many more years to go.
Every year I have a student monitor that sharpens the pencils and he knows how to empty, clean, and change the setting on the sharpener depending on what is being sharpened. It is a much sought after job in the classroom.
Again, thank you for your donations.”

We Need Markers and Paper!
Funded Mar 27, 2018Again, thank you so much for donating to my classroom. It would seem that markers might be a trivial thing, but to a 4th grader, they are essential. My class does many presentations that require them to create posters and visuals. Having good markers allows them to create a product they are proud to share. If they are proud to share their product, they are more invested in the learning as they are creating their product. It really does make a difference. The students get excited to use the markers, and smell them.
We began using them at the end of the last school year, and my 4th graders are enjoying them this year, that is 2 classes you have donated towards, and I still have some leftover for next year's bunch.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Ripple.I See You Have Graph Paper, You Must Be Plotting..
Funded Sep 7, 2018Thank you so much for donating to our classroom! My students love math, and these graph paper notebooks will help them organize their calculations. Fourth grade is the grade where math gets difficult, and many student s become discouraged. I like to provide them with any tools that will help them be successful.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Neukom Family Foundation and 4 other donors. We Need Books!
Funded Nov 29, 2017Thank you so much for donating to our class! "In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson", and "Holes" are two of my favorites to teach, and watch the students enjoy. The titles, in particular, are fantastic for students to make connections. Most of the students see themselves in at least one of the characters in the book and quickly become invested in what happens to "Shirley" and "Stanley Yelnats". This investment is what produces a love of reading.
In my class, we use literature in groups. In each group, a student has a role or focus for a particular section. They do the reading independently, complete their role (Connection Maker, Story Mapper, Question Writer, etc...), then convene with their group in class to discuss their findings. These discussions with each other is where the deeper meanings and themes of a story are discovered.
Most of the students have thoroughly enjoyed both books. I have several students who came to Kindergarten not knowing any English, and made a connection with the character Shirley Temple Wong immediately. Holes is such a fun book with many different characters, that almost all of them can relate in some way or another to one of them.”

Funded Mar 9, 2016Dear Donors,
Thank you so much for your donation of "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. We are currently on Chapter 6 and the students are in love with the story. What especially is a treat for them is the audio book. Many of the students are not grade level readers, but enjoy grade level stories. Usually I will read the story aloud for them, but at this point in the school year they are pretty sick of my voice! The audio book allows them to hear modeled fluent reading and it contains cool music at key parts of the story. The audio book gives them access to grade level content. I have combined the two study guides together to make a complete unit. The questions are grade level appropriate and allow students to use their critical thinking skills and analyze the text, rather than just quiz them on unimportant details of the book.
This gift will not only impact my 6th grade class of 2015-2016, but many more to come.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Tirschel
