  • School Supplies!

    Funded Jul 5, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my project and for supporting public education! These supplies will give my students a great start to the school year. The students are always very excited to browse their new pencil boxes on the first day of school. You guys are the best!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Tirschel

  • Reading to Reduce Stress

    Funded Feb 7, 2022

Thank you so much for donating to my project. I try to grow my classroom library every year with engaging books for students to read for enjoyment. The titles in this project funded were direct requests from the students. Everyday we have 20 minutes of our day when the students just read a book of their choice. Because life is so busy these days, kids do not read as much as before. This silent reading time gives the students a chance to reset after lunch. They are finishing the books very quickly, and can not wait to start their next title.”

  • Published Writers!

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to my project! I am very excited help the students create a space in the classroom to display their yearlong writing progress, and to enjoy the writing of their classmates. We are beyond appreciative of your generosity. This project will not only benefit my current class, but many more young authors in years to come.”

  • Books > Anthologies

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to my project. We are currently reading "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh" and it is a hit. The students love how each chapter ends with a cliffhanger. They are so disappointed when the chapter is over and they have to wait until the next day to find out what happens. As teachers we are always in competition with technology. Although I love integrating technology in the classroom, it is so nice to see them enjoying the simple pleasure of a good book. It is my goal that this enjoyment will stay with them throughout their lives.

Thank you for supporting my classroom and public education.”

  • Covid Took My Books!

    Funded Aug 21, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to my project! Thanks to you my students will be able to enjoy great books this year. All of my class sets of chapter books are fully replenished. Reading quality literature is something I really enjoyed as a child, and I like to expose my students to as many titles as I can in a school year. We are currently on our third book of the school year, and the kids love it. Over the past year and a half many of them haven't had the opportunity to visit the library or do much reading for enjoyment, so it is great to see them back at it.

Thank you so much for supporting public education, and my classroom.”

  • Back to School Basics!

    Funded Aug 2, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to my project. The students have returned to school after being at home for more than a year. When I was a student, one of my favorite things was shopping for new school clothes and school supplies. Because of the pandemic, many of our students faced financial insecurities. I wanted their welcome back to school to be special.

We are well into the school year now, and the supplies are well used! The binders are teaching the students how to organize their materials, and the highlighters, pens and pencils are making it fun.

Thank you so much for your generosity in supporting my classroom and public education.”

  • Field Trips Every Day!

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

Thank you so much for contributing to my project. So far my students have been able to visit Ebbets Field, home of the Brooklyn Dodgers during the 1940s, and China for a book we are reading called "In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson. We also attended the inauguration of President Joe Biden and the historic swearing in of Vice President Kamala Harris in Washington DC. We have even visited a couple of National Parks. Most importantly, we are in our classroom everyday. It seems like a small thing, but it brings a sense of consistency and creates an academic environment for the students during distance learning. We have been at home since the beginning fo the year, so a simple thing like seeing me in a classroom provides a sense of comfort and consistency many students are missing.”

  • Meet Me at the Rug

    Funded Jan 24, 2020

Thank you so much for your generosity! This project will help me create a classroom environment that encourages community and boosts attention and productivity. We are looking forward to putting it to good use. The kids and I are very excited.

Thank you again for showing your support, it means a lot.”

  • Good Books!

    Funded Oct 4, 2019

Thank you so much for donating a class set of "Number the Stars" by Lois Lowry. This is one of my favorite titles to read with Fourth Graders. It teaches them kindness, empathy, and how important it is to help others in need when you are able, and I feel in our current climate, this is very necessary.

Aside from the overall themes the book conveys, the students also benefit academically in many ways from reading good quality literature. Their reading fluency improves, their ability to analyze, answer questions, and evaluate literature also improves. Mostly good quality literature instills a love of reading.

Thank you again for your generous donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Tirschel

My school is located in South Los Angeles. The demographics are approximately 70% Latino, 30% African American, and 100% qualify for Title I funding. Our transiency rate is about 30%, so there are always students coming and going. Even with these obstacles, we believe our students have the ability to be just as successful as their peers in other areas. Because of this, our school is one of the highest performing schools in our area. My students come to school everyday and give me the best they can. Many of them have a lot of responsibilities outside of school like watching younger siblings, and helping run a household. Going to the library might not be something they can do, so I would like to provide them quality literature to read in class. The students all bring their own interests and strengths, some excel in math, others writing, etc. The one thing they all do enjoy is a good story.
