  • Reading Biographies

    Funded Sep 2, 2010

Thank you so much for the biography kits. They have been such a big help in our class. The students used these to to create a biography poster on a given person. Then the students did an oral presentation based on their poster. They had so much fun with this project.

The books will be used for years to come and help to enrich the lives of the many students at our school. At last, books on their level that they can comprehend!

It is through donors like you that our children will succeed! Thanks again.”

    With gratitude,

  • Reading Reading Reading

    Funded Sep 14, 2010

Thank you so much for all your generous donations. Words can't express my true appreciation for your support! It has been a few months since we have received this wonderful projector in our class. The students use it daily for our Wilson reading Program. What a difference it has made!! The students are so eager to learn now. I have even showed the students how to run the projector and they will run our reading class on their own. The projector has also sparked some interest in students learning other programs on the computer so that they can use the projector in the presentations of their own projects. This projector has been such a help in the lives of these already fragile children. It has brought so much more to their lives and has really motivated them to learn.

The projector has also made me think about how I can reach more students. We love working with it so much that I hope to use it for a summer program for students who are struggling in reading.

This projector has been a gift from heaven in these tough economic times. It is through donors like you that our children will succeed!! Thanks again.”

  • Reading Intervention

    Funded Oct 6, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donation. This is truly an exciting year for us. I have just been trained in an awesome reading program that is going to help my struggling readers. The WIST is an assessment tool that I will be using to help identify student's abilities in both word identification and spelling skills. I used it this week and was able to identify individual student needs in these areas. Then I was able to set up differentiated instruction for them. Students will be tested again to measure their progress throughout the year. Now that we have our own kit, we won't have to waste time waiting to borrow one from another school. Our program will continue to flow without interruptions.

It is through donors like you that our children will succeed! Thank you again for all your support.”

  • Reading Nonfiction

    Funded Mar 19, 2010

Thank you so much for the Nonfiction Reading Kits. They have been a wonderful addition to our current reading program.

The students were so excited when the kits arrived and went right to work. They used the kits several times a week for about four weeks. The progress was shown on their district assessments. In the area of nonfiction texts, the students usually had great difficulty. This year the students did fantastic. The results showed major improvements in all the students in the area of nonfiction text.

They are having a great time while learning.

  • Reading Takes You Everywhere

    Funded Sep 14, 2009

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our project. Words can't express how much we truly appreciate your support.

We have been using the materials for a few months now. They have really been a help in raising our test scores. This was further proved when they took their standardized tests. It was amazing to see how much their scores improved.

The students have been enjoying the fact that they can now be the teacher and help other students. They work so hard and don't even realize that they are learning while having fun!

  • Fun with Dr. Suess

    Funded Sep 28, 2009

Thank you so much for your generosity. We recently received all the Dr. Seuss books and the kids were overjoyed. Words can't express how excited they were! Everyday we do 30 minutes of independent reading and those books are always the first to be read. The student who asked for Dr. Suess books keeps borrowing the books to take home for his nightly reading. This was a child who never did homework. What a difference this has made in his life and the lives of all the students.

It is through donors like you that our children will succeed. Thank you again for all your support!”

  • Reading and Writing Takes You Everywhere

    Funded May 18, 2009

Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our class. The reading and writing kits are a fantastic supplement to our current curriculum. Because we are a special needs class, we require extra help in both reading and writing and this will assist us.

As soon as the students saw the kits they were so excited. They love working on the overhead and these kits just motivated them more. I first modeled for one group of students and then they taught another group of students on their own. The smiles on their faces told it all!

We have only used these items for a short time and I can already see an improvement in their reading and writing. Over time I know that these kits will help the students soar to success.

Thank you so much for your generosity and support. It is through donors like you that our students will succeed! ”

  • Supplies, Supplies, Supplies

    Funded Apr 27, 2009

Thank you so much for the supplies for our classroom. Words can't express how much we truly appreciate your support.

With the supplies, my students were able to begin to organize their work. The binders were used for Reading, Math and Science notebooks. They divided them into the needed sections and were able to locate everything when needed. This also helped when it came time to study for their finals.

The folders were used for organizing their writing. We also were able to create the much needed center activities to help differentiate instruction.

Thank you again for your support”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Carlson

I currently teach a special needs class of seventh and eighth grade students in a high poverty inner city school district. We currently have a few leveled readers on various levels but my students have already read them. I usually have the same students for up to four years in a row which requires a large amount of materials to meet their needs.
