  • Exercise Equals Healthy Mind

    Funded Oct 9, 2024

Thank you for your donation, if not for you classes would not have supplies and equipment to have a sussecful class. My classes appreciate all the donated supplies and equipment we recieved.

Since we have a very small gym room, there is not must we can do. But the things we do my students absoluly love. One of the exercises we do is Yoga. The posters we recieved are very helpful with my adapted physical education classes. they are visual learners so seeing the poses are very helpful.

When we go outside we like to throw the football around, the new footballs we recieved are great and my students love them.

The sports stickers really make the gym room look amazing.”

  • Why Be Ordinary When You Can Be Extraordinary

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you for your generous donation to our gymnasium. The materials we have received has changed our gymnasium tremendously. The water hydration posted have taught our students how important water is to the body. since posting and handing out the flyers our students have been drinking more water and they bring in their own bottles to fill up during the day.

Even though we haven't used our fleece balls yet, our students are very excited for the first snow fall we get. This is when we take our fleece balls and have an indoor snowball fight with them. This is the most exciting game we play all year.

The floor tape that was donated is used to tape out fields and courts when we play sports like Hockey, Volleyball, Tennis and much more.

Again we thank you for your generosity, it's donors like you who keep classrooms going.”

  • Developing Foward

    Funded Oct 17, 2019

It is with great privilege that I thank you for your generosity, without donors like you many classrooms would not have the resources to help our students. The computer that was donated to my class has allowed us to start our own student based internet radio station. The radio station called The Hungerford Buzz can be heard around the country and can be heard at www.hungerfordschool.org.

This student based station is produced edited and hosted by students and staff. Some of the content in on our radio station includes interviews, weekly updates, school functions and seasonal stories.

We have 8 different sites in our school spread out over Staten Island NY, this is a great way for out students to interact with off sites and learn what is going on around the school.”

  • Scooter Mania

    Funded Nov 16, 2018

Your generous donation goes a long way in my physical education classroom. I surprised my students the day we received our scooters. The look on their faces were priceless, they have been asking for scooters the past few years. Thanks to your donation we are able to race our scooters around the gym and school. My students have races through the hallways and all the classes peek there heads out of the classrooms and cheer them on.

My students love to exercise on the exercise balls, I was only able to have one or two exercise balls in use because we had no space to store them, now we have our ball rack I have 10 exercise balls going at once. My students are creating their own exercises using the balls.

Again we thank you so much for your generosity and support of our classroom. If not for donors like you schools like mine would not have the funds to support a funfilled physical education class. Thank you !!!”

  • Adapted Physical Education

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

On behalf of the Richard H. Hungerford School's A.P.E. program, I would like to thank you for your support. The equipment we received has changed our Adapted Physical Education classes tremendously. With the space that we are given this equipment will allow my students to participate in many different sports, skills and activities. We set up the tennis net and there are many different sports we can play like Tennis, Volleyball, Sit Volleyball and Pickle ball. The floor tape allows us to have courts and fields , helps the students know where they are suppose to be on the court. Thank you again for your support.”

  • Adapted Physical Education

    Funded Oct 1, 2017

My students were very excited so see the packages from Donors Choose come in and couldn't wait to open to see what we got. At first the students had no idea what the fleece balls were , after I told them what they were and the games they could play that's the only thing they want to play. The sure shot Frisbee game is also a big hit. The jumbo speed stack buckets come in handy for different reasons, not only is it a fun game for the students to play but it also helps us with target games, throwing skills and other activities that we couldn't play with out them.

My students THANK YOU very much.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher D'Alessandro

  • Adapted Physical Education

    Funded Oct 24, 2016

This is my second year as a physical education teacher. I was given a few classes at an off-site of our main building. This site has no gym available for us to use. I didn't know what I was going to do with no gym and no equipment. I was told about Donors Choose and made up a project and got it funded. My school was nice enough to purchase a outdoor portable basketball hoop, so the basketballs and air pump will allow my students to learn basketball skills and have a place to go and enjoy their gym class.

This equipment not only made it easier to teach my students but got the students motivated to come up with different ways to use the equipment. Having the students come up with their own ideas makes them want to participate in the activities more. I went from a teacher with no clear idea of how to make physical education class fun to having my students ask me when we were going to do certain activities.”

I didn't know what I was going to do with no gym and no equipment. I was told about Donors Choose and made up a project and got it funded. The school I work for is a special needs school; all students have some kind of physical or educational disability. Our school has over three hundred students in seven different locations. The location I work at is housed in a general education high school which has over three thousand students. With that many students in one school, I do not have access to the gymnasium or any open space for my students. I have thirty-one students that I teach adapted physical education to, and it's all done in the classroom. Before we start, desks and chairs need to be moved and safety is an issue. However, the students love to participate in A.P.E. and will do anything to help the staff and I make an appropriate space for their activities.
