  • Diagnosing Disease Through Urinalysis

    Funded Feb 14, 2019

Thank you for donating to our project!

We are so happy that we were able to raise money for these urinalysis kits. We were shocked to know that individual donors took an interest in our education and provided us with such amazing and fun science equipment!

These resources allowed us to successfully practice science and explore human anatomy and physiology. In particular, this project helped build upon our interest in the medical field. With these kits we were able to perform tests to identify normal and abnormal simulated urine specimens and determined probable disorders. We focused on tests for color, pH, specific gravity, glucose, and protein.

Although this topic seemed very difficult to understand at first, these kits helped bring the subject alive! Thanks for helping to make it happen!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Vega

  • Modeling DNA to Protein

    Funded Nov 12, 2018

Thank you for donating to our project!

We are so happy that we were able to raise money for the science kits. We are so grateful that individual donors took an interest in our education and provided us with such amazing and fun science tools! Our goal of making our STEM class more advanced is finally happening!

Last month, we used the science kits to model protein synthesis. The kits allowed us to model transcription and translation using unique magnetic pieces that represented nucleotide bases. We developed our own protein translation model, and used clay to demonstrate the physiological effects of the sickle cell mutation.

Because the activity provided a real life scenario, it was more interesting than your average lesson. Because we were able to DO protein synthesis, the process makes so much more sense.

Thanks for helping to make it happen!”

  • Inquiry Science

    Funded Nov 6, 2018

Thank you for donating to our project!

We are so happy that we were able to raise money for microscopes and slides. We are so grateful that individual donors took an interest in our education and provided us with such amazing and fun science equipment! Our goal of making our STEM class more advanced is finally happening!

Last month, we used the new microscopes to prepare wet mount slides of the letter e. We learned how to focus the microscope and draw our observations under the different magnification levels. We also discovered that the microscope flips the image upside down and backwards.

We are currently learning about specialized cells and we can now compare different cell types and how their form determines function.

Thanks for helping to make it happen!”

  • STEM Microscope Project Continued

    Funded Oct 15, 2018

We were beyond excited when we received these materials and supplies. We were shocked to know that individual donors took an interest in our education and provided us with such amazing science equipment!

With these microscope slides, we will be able to better learn about cells and cell biology lab techniques. We can now do science more professionally and prepare ourselves as future medical professionals.

Your gift has empowered us to discover how science impacts our everyday lives and although such biology topics can be difficult to learn about, they can be studied, understood, and are fun to learn about. Most of all, we have learned that a community of people care about our education.

Collaborative and exploratory learning are key elements to STEM education and your contributions have helped drive us to becoming the powerful Medical Explorers that I know we can be. Thank you for helping our classroom move into the 21st century.

Your generosity has truly made a difference.”

I teach a diverse range of 7th and 8th graders. I have students that require remediation as well as those that need enrichment. My students are incredibly motivated and persistent in their learning, especially in science. It is my goal to foster an appreciation for scientific inquiry while relating science and technology to the everyday and diverse lives of my students.
