  • Travel Through The Teen Years with Graphic Novels

    Funded Nov 11, 2022

Thank you for your generosity in supporting our classroom. It is ever as important for our students to see themselves in the books they are reading. In recovering from the pandemic, access to reading quality books that peak the interest of young minds is essential to close the gap.

Your donations have given us a lending library where students will have full choice in reading appealing, engaging and insightful books. The rotation of the lending library will give each student access to 6-8 titles this school year in addition to their curriculum.

We currently have a book club excited to read the graphic novel "This One Summer" written by Mariko Tamaki and illustrated by Jillian Tamaki. All of this excitement for reading is because of you! Thank you again for you gift!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ortiz

  • Window Masks and Equity forEveryone

    Funded Jan 9, 2022

Thank you so much for generosity! We appreciate your help to make this year successfully for all of our students. It is amazing to finally see my students smile and even more powerful that we are able to include everyone in communicating with these clear masks. Being a new student in a new school can be intimidating enough. Now imagine limiting your communication with peers because you need to read their lips, during a pandemic, when everyone is wearing masks. This experience has been eye opening, challenging and has taught us so much already. Your gifts directly impacted our confidence and ability to communicate. Thank you for changing our classroom and thank you for making this difficult experience a little brighter for all!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ortiz

  • A Journey Through Fantasy

    Funded Jan 1, 2017

Getting students excited about reading is a constant struggle we face in this modern age of technology. Projects like this where my students were aware and took part in our classroom project built up so much excitement. The hope that we would be funded made my students burn with the desire to read these fantastic series. The joy that they showed when we were funded left my ears ringing for a few minutes, and the anticipation of receiving the books in the mail directly to our school made their desire to read even that much greater. Through your funding, you have helped me to start kindling the fire in my students to become avid readers. You have taught them that there is still hope for the world through a kind, and generous act. Because of you, my students will have the ability to escape reality into the realm of wizards and magic, fairyland, and even through history with the materials you have donated. Through your donation, you have accomplished to teach my students in the best way possible. You fueled their excitement, their desire to succeed, and a drive to read some awesome books. Thank you again!”

  • A Comforting Place to Escape

    Funded Jan 20, 2016

Thank you so much for all of your support! We just received our classroom carpet and my students are so excited and appreciative for this new space you've helped created. While some students expressed their first instinct to roll on the carpet, others eagerly awaited their turn to select their time of escape with their new books.

The huge purple carpet was carried into the room and students cheered as the plastic wrapping was cut off. They were so excited to see this new addition and went through drastic measures to make sure everyone understood the new rules in protecting our new sacred space.

I can safely say that I am just as eager to see them learn in this new space, as they are to use it for their own growth!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ortiz

  • Getting Ahead with Books!

    Funded Dec 27, 2015

Thank you so much for your amazing generosity and willingness to participate in the lives of our youth. These books have sparked an excitement in my students as they took part in researching the books before we requested them. The build up had them so excited as we tracked the package for delivery and the suspense was finally fulfilled when they could actually feel the brand new paperback glossy covers.

My students are a unique bundle of buds ready to bloom. By providing us with these resources, you have given my students the best super power as a student, a choice. Now my students have a choice in what they will be reading and what fantasy world they want to escape to. By simply providing them with this opportunity to select what they read, we are developing a long lost love of reading. These titles were crucial in pushing the envelop so that each student would be challenged with a higher reading level and an engaging piece of text.

Again, I thank you enormously. You have honestly changed the energy behind independent reading in my classroom and impacted many of these students lives with your donations.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ortiz

This year, I have the privilege of working with three very unique classes, two of which are special needs inclusion classrooms. Our students are eager and resilient. They are dedicated to self growth and drive each other to be successful in everyday task from homework, to class participation and more. They encourage one another to stand by their own work and voice their individuality. Our school strives for excellence and each one of us share the excitement as they grow from school dependent learners to independent learners. Their ability to make the decision of what they want to read will ultimately lead them to be successful readers and leaders of the future.
