Our students learn more algebra faster using the Texas Instruments Graphing Calculator. The 7th and 8th grade students in our math classes are struggling to learn basic algebra concepts in a high needs Title I school. They are on the weak side of the achievement gap and need to succeed at math in order to succeed when they go onto high school. With pencil and paper it can be a slow, disheartening laborious process that discourages many of the low self-esteem students in our school. When given a graphing calculator, the math comes alive for them as they are empowered to rapidly test their math ideas.
