The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math) are the careers of the future. My students are not exposed to these careers in their families or even their community. Allowing them opportunities to explore the necessary thinking skills of STEAM will help to prepare them for the jobs of the future.
My students would benefit greatly from these materials because they require opportunities to create and design new things. The items we have requested will allow us to create buckets for students to explore and encourage them to use their creativity using only the materials in each specific bucket. Each bucket will contain groups of two to three items requested with challenging task cards for students to build and create. For example one bucket would have pipe cleaners and straws for students to design a bridge or building from a task card.
The Design & Build Engineering centers has three specific buckets that will challenge students to build using a limited amount of supplies to create different types of houses, vehicles, and bridges. These kits are engaging and encourages students to explore and experience the scientific process through hands on materials.
These STEAM buckets will allow students to use free class time to design structures and improve upon those designs. They will be encouraged to complete their work in a timely manner to have the opportunity to participate. This design practice can help prepare them for future careers in the STEAM fields with confidence.
