  • De-Stressing through Coloring

    Funded Feb 13, 2022

I appreciate your support in helping my students socio- emotional learning in this dire need. As we are back in person learning, me and my colleagues see the challenges our students are facing where they are withdrawn and disconnected as a result of the pandemic. Your donation will help teach them mechanisms to be present in the moment and cope with anxiety that may be facing.”

  • De-Stressing through Coloring

    Funded Dec 14, 2018

Our classroom, 406, serves as a resource center for students to receive extra support, extra time or just a place of comfort during or after school hours. We created a corner in our little office called a "De-Stress Corner" in which students can feel free to grab an adult coloring book and colored pencils and start coloring. This corner has lit up our room with bright and color.

My students now have a safe haven to use to relieve stress. One of the major reasons to earn these supplies and create a safe haven such as this is to teach students healthy ways to deal with stress. With coloring, students can bond with one another, utilize it as a coping mechanism when speaking with a teacher or friend or even to meditate while coloring. We ordered coloring books that included mandalas and graffiti-like positive affirmations in which students can color and we hope to post around our classroom walls to give students inspiration and motivation.

Part of our school culture is to teach not only shape students academically but socially and emotionally. These coloring books serve as an healthy outlet for students who are burned out or stress as a way to deal with it through positivity and encouragement.”

  • Planners for Success!

    Funded Feb 4, 2017

My students have received their planners this past week. Their immediate reaction was astonishment. My students were excited and surprised to know people actually invested in the project and cared about their progress in school. I have so far given out planners to each of my students in my classes and have explained to them the process that was taken for them to receive them.

They are now using them in their classes and writing down homework assignments, important test dates, deadlines regarding school in their planners. We started out using the monthly agenda for February and writing down goals they would like to achieve in this month. I am also distributing planners to teachers who would like to give specific students this essential tool. I plan to have my students to regroup at the end of the month to assess if they have accomplished their goal and what can successes and difficulties they experienced in achieving their goals.

My next steps for my students is to not only use the planners for recording important deadlines but also set monthly academic goals for them to achieve. For students to succeed in their classes, they need to be able to set up action plans and goals to achieve. The planners are useful in that they can plan in different time increments (monthly, weekly and daily) and identify the steps they need to achieve their goal. This will improve not only their organizational skills but self empowerment.

Thank you for all your help. You are truly making a difference in my students lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kaur

  • Agenda Books/Planners

    Funded Dec 18, 2015

Our planners came in right time during the school year. The package had came in early January and I was able to distribute them to my classes. I had explained to the students the process that was needed to obtain the planners and they were extremely excited.

In nearly all of my 5 classes, most of my special education students obtained a planner. They were all not only excited but grateful for the planner. They were surprised that companies such as Android and people care about their success in school and are willing to contribute to their success and performance.

Right now my students are utilizing their planners writing down all assignments for all of their classes. Some of my students have expressed that they use them not only to record academic assignments but social or personal anecdotes and deadlines as well. Your contribution to the completion of this project made a huge different in providing a necessary resource but also the warming thought that people outside of our school community care about them.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kaur

Our school is located in Queens, one of the most ethnically diverse populations in New York. My students with special needs come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, often living in a single parent household. Being limited on resources makes my students feel deprived and hindered in the classroom. My students come with diverse talents and abilities but are not given the resources that encourage them to further pursue their talents to perform better in school.
