STEAM/STEM schools were created to help students take advantage of 21st century jobs in science and engineering. A key competency of STEM is coding, generally associated with computers and robotics and other forms of technology. To master this area, it is critical for students to begin a program of study at an early age. This is why I began a coding program for students in grades k-2. Unfortunately, as with most unban districts, our resources are limited and our students rarely have technology at home which will help them gain proficiency in the of coding. Code-a-Pillar will help this situation by giving these young students a great introductory resource to the world of coding and will help build a strong foundation for more advanced concepts in their later grades.
