The kids are from an economically deprived part of the Rosebud Sioux reservation. Most parents are very poor in money, but not in spirit. I coached them in football and saw a very high level of pride. Sadly however, their spirit is also very brittle and they are often times broken by their environment. We constantly carry a battle with them of keeping them in school and keeping them in hope of a better future. Many have never allowed themselves to succeed because they are afraid to fail.
