My students are a diverse group of students. Some families are just making ends meet, whereas others are economically sound. We are a low poverty school in California, but the majority of students are just getting by. With budgets the way they are and the ACLU law suit, the dance program is getting very little funding. The dance program, for some kids, is their place of sanctuary and freedom. One of the only places they can truly be themselves. The ability to have a program and learn to create is so valuable. It warms my heart every time a student makes a new discovery or pushes his or her own boundaries. With the musical equipment, they will continue to explore and expand their horizons.
