  • Sweet, Sweet Success

    Funded May 25, 2023

I cannot thank you enough for the generosity you've shown to my class. Most of our students come to school hungry and unable to focus, as the breakfast provided is not enough to fill the void from the lack of resources when they leave the building. Having a lunch time of 12:45pm did not make it easy to get through all of our academics beforehand.

Although our school does not provide snack or a snack period, originally I was providing snack but that got to be too expensive (we all know teachers have to work 2nd jobs...) That's when you came in!

Seeing the joy and excitement on their faces when we received our care packages of snacks was indescribable. We were able to have many days of "working snack" because of your selflessness, and this greatly helped our class last until lunchtime. I cannot say thank you enough!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mintzer

  • Enhance Our Day Through Social Emotional Play!

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

Our students were so excited to receive our new materials. They cheered and jumped up and down during the unboxing! They were especially excited for the magnatiles, fidgets, sensory sand, and sensory foam. We used these materials to create a "calm down corner" where students who are in crisis can go and gather themselves in a non toxic way, and we also use them as part of our "fun Friday" choice centers. At the end of the day on Fridays we put out a few of them as centers and let students choose where they want to go.

These materials allow our students' creativity to flourish, meet their social emotional needs, and they also allow them to socialize and work together to build something great (especially with the magnatiles). In the pictures you can see them socializing and taking turns using the materials, and you can even see some of their impressive magnatile creations.

Thank you so much donors, without you this would not be possible! We are so grateful!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mintzer

  • Spark Our Love To Read and Watch Us Succeed!

    Funded Sep 12, 2019

Thank you so much for your generosity which allowed us to transform our classroom space into a space we love. Because of you we were able to get the library furniture we deserve! You should've seen the look on our faces when we unboxed it!!

This space has become so much more than just our classroom library. My students are so eager to complete their independent or partner reading in the new furniture. It has also become a place where students are able to take a break and "cool" down. It has really had a positive impact on our social emotional learning, as students have been using it to help regulate their emotions and build independence, which is so important!!

I just want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts, as this would not have been possible without you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mintzer

  • Help Us Become Readers, Writers and Mathematicians!

    Funded Nov 23, 2018

The Kindergartners in K-206 are loving their new resources! The write and wipe answer boards have really turned our whole class discussions and turn and talks into something magical. They get so excited to write their answers and hold up their boards for everyone to see. The boards have really helped raise the level of engagement in our classroom!

Students are also loving their new math centers. The games are so much fun, they almost forget they are learning at the same time! The variety of games also helps keep them engaged for much longer.

Our students were so excited when they first saw the materials! These students are not used to getting gifts and the timing of it (right after Thanksgiving) could not have been more perfect. They couldn't grasp that complete strangers had given these gifts just for them, and it really made them feel appreciated.

We are so grateful that this project was funded because of you, and we cannot wait to keep using our new resources!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mintzer

  • Making Math and Literacy Fun: Bridging the Gap Poverty Created!

    Funded Dec 29, 2016

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity and kindness! When my students first saw the materials they were beyond excited! Upon seeing all of the new games and materials they could not contain their excitement and were literally screaming and jumping for joy! Most of my students live in poverty, so receiving gifts is not something that they are used to. Therefore, their genuine excitement and happiness when we opened up our materials was truly heartwarming.

We use our new materials every single day. Most of the materials are used in centers, where students work in small groups on specific targeted skills. For example, the group of students who need reinforcement with beginning sounds play beginning sounds bingo, the students who need to learn their letters play alphabet bingo. Other students who are working on spelling out CVC words use the CVC word builder, others who need to work on their fine motor skills for handwriting use the magic boards and tracers! In our classroom we have literacy centers in the morning and math centers in the afternoon. In math centers my students are a huge fan of the fishing for numbers game and the counting boxes. I am so glad that they get to have fun while learning important math concepts such as number recognition and 1:1 correspondence.

Because of your generosity during independent reading we now have enough books for each child to keep multiple books in their "book baggies." Thanks to our new leveled library students are able to keep books that are on their "just right" level!

We are so thankful that there are people like you in this world!! Thank you for caring so much about our learning experiences!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mintzer

Our names are Jessica Mintzer and Shannon Calle. We are kindergarten teachers in the Bronx. The district that we teach in is one of the poorest, and it is heartbreaking to witness the effects of poverty first hand. We've had students who cannot afford simple supplies that we take for granted such as a backpack or pencils. We've also had students arrive hungry because they did not receive a meal for dinner the night before. Despite the hand that they were dealt, our students are brimming with curiosity and an excitement for learning. Any donations received will go directly toward enhancing their school day experience!! :)
