My 8th grade students got hooked on class sets after we read Monster by Walter Dean Myers and The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. Allowing my students to have access to e-books on Kindle tablets, as well as culturally relevant books will open doors to new worlds for my students. Many of my students have never traveled outside of Eastern North Carolina, but through the power of reading they can have all new experiences. Dear Martin is an empowering new novel that tackles race relations in American society. It involves characters that my students will relate to, a strong message, and will hook my young readers from the very first page.
