My students range from kindergarten to sixth grade serving approximately eight hundred students in a low, socio-economic area. I work with students with emotional disabilities on their behavior to support them on their personal goals and growth. I also work with students who were identified to have family stressors and problems, difficulties with peers, significant events and trauma, problematic behavior or simply requiring basic needs. Many students do come from broken homes and lack proper communication skills; the capability of staying focused and might have trouble working with others. These flaws are reflected in their behaviors and actions and often lead to challenges in the classroom and on campus. My position as the School Social Worker is to best support the social, emotional and academic needs of all students. In my time spent with students in groups, classroom or individual counseling, I encourage them do what is expected and do it the best they can.
