Imagine you are out of shape. Then, imagine you have to run a marathon every single day. This is how my students feel in their classrooms while reading and writing. They need to work twice as hard as their peers. When reading is hard, kids are discouraged to participate, thereby preventing that much-needed practice! Reading and writing is extremely challenging for my students. These materials will help my struggling students improve their reading comprehension and writing skills through fun and exciting, hands-on, multi-sensory materials. Research shows that students retain skills when presented in an engaging, memorable way. Research also shows that students with special needs benefit from kinesthetic materials. I am asking for games and task cards that target reading comprehension skills such as the main idea, inferencing, cause-effect, and sequencing. These exciting materials will show them that reading is FUN! I am also asking for a graphic organizer chart, which will provide visual organization for their writing assignments. In addition, using Post-Its is a fun, easy way to take quick notes on books they are reading. The "Find The Evidence" clips will make finding and citing sources engaging! With these fun materials, I hope to reignite a love of reading and writing in my students. This will help them to further their education and be successful students.
