Students with Disabilities Need Ereader for Reading Skills

Funded Jan 26, 2012

Students in our class are in a high-need, low poverty area. Many of them face difficult life challenges and school is a safe haven for them. It has been an exciting experience for students to engage in reading using the electronic reader. Students are reading and excited about reading when using the electronic reader. Excitement was in the air at the anticipation of receiving our new electronic reader. Students sat around their desks waiting for the box to be opened. It's quite amazing to see how something so little to some means the world to others. Most students if not all, do not even have a computer at a home. In fact most students do not even have access to a regular paper back or hard cover book. So when the electronic reader arrived it was as if Santa Claus had just landed on our chimney. Students are enjoying having access to this digital wonderland. While students flip through each page with their forefinger, you can see a twinkle of excitement in their eyes. Having the electronic reader has allowed students to experience a book in a digital format which is of interest to them which in turn inspires them to read more. We are graciously thankful for the donation of the electronic reader. It has enhanced our classroom with learning opportunities that may have otherwise not been available. It is greatly appreciated.

With gratitude,
